Mark ,
Daiwa makes good baitcaster and light in weight too but the stock drag isn't smooth , after market carbontex drag washer is a must for most Daiwa reels !
Shimano , on the other hand makes equally good reels but they tend to be heavier , the stock drag out of the box is exceptionally smooth for most Shimano reels .

Heno, I can't agree with Jonli on the question of the standard drag. I have one of these and its great, but the twitchin' bar is a bit of a wank. I have hardly used that feature on my reel, but admittedly, I mainly use it for salt water / bay / bottom bouncing. The twitchin' bar works just fine, but I think it may be a bit of a novelty, but I can't speak for bass fishers.
I also have the Daiwa HRF which is a similar sized reel but with a better drag. I use this reel every weekend and I use it with plastics. It's not a bad caster, even if you have small jig heads and light plastics. In fact, the HRF is my favourite reel and I prefer it to my Shimano Chronarch. From memory, I bought it for aroung $275 from Springwood Marine - go and see Glen there. Oh yes, I now have it spooled up with 30lb Penn Pro-Braid and I'm taking it to Weipa on Saturday to catch some seriously large freight tran fish, that will be the test for it and its drag.
Hope this helps

My brother scored one off his wife for xmas & he loves it to bits..
He works SP's in using the twitchin' bar & has good success while he holds beer in the other hand! :D
I THINK ITS JUST ANOTHER GEMMICK THAT WILL PACK IT IN IN TWELVE MONTHS BUT I COULD BE WRONG I HAVE BEEN BEFORE

Hi Heno,
If your intrested in the twitchin bar feature Daiwa have released another reel in their line up called the Smak 100,I have no experience with either Viento or the Smak but the later seems to be a bit cheaper,It's a goldy orange colour with a longer single grip handle.6 bearings 1 roller and tips the scales at 250gs,You should be able to get em for around $260AU delivered to ya door.Just thought I'd give ya the heads up if ya seriously lookin.
# #Regards hardb8 ;)
I'm currently useing an abu 6500c3 and while its a good reel at the end of day tends to be a little heavy which is why I've been looking at some low profile reels.Choices so far have come down to the diawa viento / sol / HRF. Thanks for the info on the smack 100 hardb8, havn't seen these before and will look into them. The twitchin bar is of little interest ( nothin that can't be done with the rod ) just a nice lookin little reel.

Heno,
# My boss recently purchased a HRF and is more than pleased with it.But I'd say the Sol is the top pick of the three you have mentioned but it's also the dearest.Sid fishes also recommends a great reel in the Alphas,I recently imported an Alphas Ito 103 for a friend of mine which is a collaboration of Daiwa and Megabass,This is a limited edition reel but it's still available,Ended up being $372 at the door. The only drawback is it's a freshwater only reel.Check the pics of this badboy 8-)
Regards hardb8 # ;)
