Two issues that I would be concerned with. Firstly any twist will be a real problem and secondly I get so many line cuts from mono on an Alvey that I would probably start losing fingers with braid

Never had a problem with line twist with an Alvey, but would be careful of using true braid as you may get cut fingers. Some of the fused type lines may not be as big a problem but would still be cautious.

You'd need to mortgage the house to buy enough braid to fill an Alvey 650!

I have a 650bvc and a 825bvc both with braid the 650 has 50lb tuffline and the 825 has 80lb fireline.
they were purchased as my father has only used alveys so they where spare rods for him. I now use the 825 quite a bit and have never cut my fingers with the braid. I only guide the line on I dont hold it.

Maybe you could try the new Platypus Lo-Stretch its a monofilament that has such low stretch it thinks it's a braid or so the advertising says it might be worth a try .
