View Full Version : Lure Storage

What do you guys find is the best method and type of lure storage.
I currently use a two sided lure box (ie top and bottom open separately). It is OK for smaller lures, but compartment size prevents carrying more than 3 or 4 100mm and over lures. Also there is no space that will take spinner baits.
Looking for something that I can use for fishing trips. It doesn't need to carry all my lures, as I'm generally happy to sort lures for each trip and only take those I might use for the target species.
I want to be able to carry at least a dozen hard bodies, some spinnerbaits and preferable a variety of SPs(in packets), jig heads etc. If necessary, I'm prepared to continue to carry SPs in a separate box.
I prefer to keep the lures separated as much as possible to limit the 'treble tangle'
Anyone solved this problem? What about lure rolls. Anyone used these?

Thanks hubby, but which Plano box do you recommend. There are dozens (hundreds) and I haven't seen the 'right' one yet.
Best I've seen is probably one that has flip over separate lure compartments that sit in the box at a 45 degree angle. Expensive, but looks good. But no space for spinner baits.
Most of the Plano boxes are 'tackle boxes'. I have a terrific one, but most of the storage compartments are too small for lures. Great for hooks, swivels, sinkers etc and some lures though. My current lure box (described in initial post) is also a Plano.
I'm after a specific lure box. I rarely go fishing with both bait and lures on the same trip.

Check this out. Possibly a bit big and certainly expensive (well over $100 in Australia I would expect), but it looks like a great box.

this is what i mean, you can get special boxes for the top that take only spinnerbaits, and also smaller boxes for other stuff. hubby

I had a box very similar hubby. But it got stolen a couple of years ago (with all my tackle and lures in it!!!).
I replaced it with another large plano with drawers rather than removable boxes. It is good, but too big to take in the boat (3.5m roof topper). Also, I prefer not to have too many lures in the same section to avoid treble tangle.
If you have a big enough boat, I guess you can carry many dozens of lures with you.

The Sliders hang from the cup holders in the Lux and helps to sooth me as I drive - like a wind chime. Actually they annoy the crap but they're conveniently placed.

Pick the dozen or so lures you really need. Get some treble covers for them. Go to Big W and buy a cheap plastic box big enough to fit lures. Problem solved.

Those Treble covers send a shiver up my spine. Once I was removing a treble cover and yes, you guessed it, the treble went straight in my thumb. We were in the middle of the ocean and the lure was a big heavy one. I was useless as I had to hold the lure with my other hand so the weight caused me less pain from the lure movement. I was taken to the doctor(it took 3 hours cos we had to get back to the boat ramp, hook up the boat, find a doctor that was open and then wait in the waiting room)Worst day that I can remember. Please just learn from my ignorance of those Treble covers, as they are not easy to remove.
With the tackle boxes, I have learnt to only buy ones with removable size compartments. Some compartment sides just slide out and you can accommodate any size lure, without the use of those dreaded Treble covers.
Cheers
