Does anyone make upgraded drags for alveys?

The palm of your hand works fine. I personally prefer the A style Alveys with no drag as it seems more direct. I have no doubt you can get something spaceage from Jack Erskine. He made me some up for a 30 year old ABU

There are teflon upgrades for the alvey deck winches that make them prety smooth so I would say that they are also available for the others,to the best of my knowledge they are made by Alvey I will check tomorrow for you,I think the price is around five dollars per washer.

Just give Alvey a tingle and they'll sort you straight.

Hi there Krazy..don't know whether tis will help, but I found because the drag washers were probably made with a punch. I found they were oval not flat...So I rubbed each washer with fine wet n dry paper till they had an even filing....the drag then worked a lot more smoother

Hi Krazyfisher,
I installed a set of Alvey teflon drag washers on my 650C5 a while back. You just replace the red fibre washers with the teflon ones. They cost about $8.00 and the part number is R7C5T which fits many of the larger alveys.
They certainly fix the jerky drag problem - it's now as smooth as my TLD. The only problem is that now I can't get any more than about 1kg of drag no matter how tight I tighten the star nut. Much less friction than the fibre washers even dry. Can't have everthing I guess.

Yeah Krazy, they are the white plastic looking washers.
Cheap enough to give it a go but as I said, you can't get much friction out of them.
