Earlier this year i fished with Brooksy and bugman on YMER during the big blue bite that took place wide of Cape Moreton it was a amazing day and totally hooked me on heavy tackle fishing. The second thing the day taught me was that my tiagra 30W and 24kg line was not going to be enough for future attempts so the research started!! ;) I decide to go for a 37 kg stand-up set up with a tiagra 80WA as the reel but the rod was proving harder to track down so after aot of reading and chating to the rod builder i settled on a Pacific composites 37 kg blank and Alutecnos roller guides with a Alutecnos mini bent butt. Here are some shots of the new set-up. ;)

Guides
these guides are a little unique as they can be removed from the rod for cleaning and storage also if you travel they can be stored with the reel to avoid damage. All that stays on the rod is the guide seat!! www.alutecnos.com

Great looking outfit. That must be pretty much the limit for standup gear. Certainly looks like it will put some hurt on the end of the line. Looking forward to seeing the results

Always trying to save a dollar Ian. Why not splash out and get something flash instead ;D ;D ;D
When are you fitting the game chair and flybridge to the Outlaw? 8-)
You are bound to raise a few blues to wonder what the hell that was. :D

Yep 37kg would be the upper limit then you are into 130 sized reels 60kg line and chair rods! I do like the idea of a stand-up fight but that opinion my change :o

Think there are only a couple of guys that specialise in stand up 130, Tracy Melton the owner of Melton's tackle in the US is one of them. He is about 6'5" though. I know Andrew Yeh from Inside Edge charters is spooling his standup 80s with 130 for his Cairns assult this year in the Kevlacat, me, I am fishing 4x80s standup out of Cooktown for the Granders in two weeks time. Giddyup! Rod looks schweeeeet Ian!

Didn't go for the combo ? Alutecnos reel ? I have handled these babies and I tell ya what. They make most other reels look and feel like toys. IMO. :) ::)
Nice looking gear Ian. You know what's next......... ya gotta drag the Bugmiester back from the Apple Island and get into those Blues.
Hope to catch up very soon, mate.

As far as cost goes i could probably purchase a fair sized African nation for the price. The reel retails for around the $1200 mark and the rod a fair bit more than that :-[
It's the componentry in the rods that makes it expensive i could have done it a bit cheaper but it's nice to no that when your onto a BIGGY that the only thing that will let you down is yourself !!! ;)
