Broke my wilson sovereign 3-6kg graphite spin rod last night. The break is just below the large bottom guide. As it is broken in the thicker less flexing section, was thinking of aralditeing a steel pin in the core to re-join it.
Wondering if anyone has done similar and how successful it was.

Rather than a steel pin try a sleeve on the inside and the outside of similar material to the original - araldited and then bound - no guarantees, sometimes they last for ages other times they break again first cast.

repaired a few further up with a glass spigot, work ok.
Advice from the pro rod builder mate is to not trim the broken ends.
A bit of work with abrasive paper gets the spigot to fit ok, taper the ends a bit smaller than the internal dia of the rod, glue in with 24 hr epoxy and overbind as ancienttinnie suggest.
The epoxy/other finish on the binding may or may not get a white line/crack; leaving the broken ends as they are helps with this apparently
