I've used fireline and whiplash, both by Berkley, also spiderwire, and harros bionic braid. To be honest I couldn't say there was anything between them. I notice more difference with what I did at the business end, ie leader, knots etc. Not much help to you i know, but there it is.

I use tuf line xp. I have caught a few barra on it and have had no troubles. I think it just comes down to personal preference. I have got some finns on another reel that I dont mind although I'm not to fond of fireline in the heaver line sizes.

Scotty ,
I abandoned using Tufline XP on baitcaster because this line develops " stickiness " and when cast from revolving spool reel ( baitcaster ) , it hinders line coming out smoothly , Tufline XP is fine when used with spinning reel , however .
I use Japanese braided line and have bought Varivas Spinning braided line in 200m spool but my older YGK 4X is still OK lest has been depleted somewhat .

I have been using Platil Millenium 30lb braid with a Calcutta 200 on an Angler Ultragpraph 3000 rod. I also use a length of mono as a leader.
This is the first braid I have used, so nothing really to compare it to, but I do like it and have had no issues.

Fins 50lb.. the platypus 50lb super braid??? is good too, dad has a few setups with both fins and platypus and has been happy with both ;) ite your leader line i would be more concerned with if chassing these big impoundment barra ;)
we currently use 80lb Jinki with either bimini or double uni and a lefty's loop knot on the lure.
Good luck and have fun!!!
Cheers
Brandon..
PS: this is setup for casting in the trees and snags, not for trawling in open water witch is a little safer/gear frendly so you can drop down size if doing this..
Fins 50lb. Impressed so far
cheers

I use fireline in fluro green, in the lighter lines this is soft and supple with great feel, it sits on top of the water so you can see fish on the drop take of with your sp. I'm just trying out the 30lb fireline so i'll let ya know how it goes.

just statred using the new suffix performance braid recently a new and improved formula being released as we speak (this is the colour), used the 50 lb at awoonga in and around the sticks and weeds and found it very castable due to thin diameter (.3 of a millimeter) and didn,t "fluff up " when running over snags all the time .
best of luck choosing as there is a heap to pick from. ;)

I have always used the trusty berkley fireline with out fault. I think most of the superlines are fine for the job. The japanese braid seems slightly thiner again than the american/aussie braid. Whats the cost differance between the Diawa and say fireline?
I have heard good reports on the new berkley invisiable braid.
Cheers

Have to say that Platypus braid 20 lb is my favourite. And it's Australian, hey? :)

got samples of XDS, Finns, TD sensor and new Nitlon PE all in 50lb for abrasion tests. found that the fused braids (XDS and Finns) were terrible! with Finns being the worst. Found that the TD sensor and Nitlon consistently 3-4 times for durable. interestingly they are both 8-ply PE braids
Have had reports from friends that both Tuffline XP and TD sensor suffer from random failure along length for no apparent reason, but cannot confirm this for myself as i have used them. I used XDS all last season on both my impoundment and estuary barra outfits with no problems at all. but after outcomes of abrasion tests i'll be switching to an 8-ply braid for monduran in the timber....

I like the Whiplash braid cause it is a bit smoother and quieter, The Platypus is a good tough line but very noisy when retrieving. I still have the problem of getting my fingers in the way when I get hit by a fish and the line pulls down to the grip. A bad habit leftover from when I only used mono. cheers, steve.
hey mate i use fins 20lb for barra on my chronarch
cheers
