I have a stradic 8000 93model, and have just loaded it up with 50lb tuf line, when testing/pulling the drag as the line gets to the top of the spool it go deeper into the spool and stops, Ive just spent a fair amount of money on repairing this reel and braid and a rod to match it and now this. Any ideas?
I have wound it on reasonably tight, but maybe tighter would be necessary, or run it out behind the boat when moving and wind it back in?
cheers

When I put braid onto a reel it's a few metres of mono first to bite onto the spool and then the braid goes on as tight as I can physicaly put it on,this usually means someone holding the spool of braid with a couple of bits of thong to put as much preasure on as is possible and me having a few breaks to uncramp the winding hand,if it's diging in it's not tight enough.

Hey rainbowrunner another trick to getting the braid on as tight as possible would be to wind it off onto an alvey reel, although it isnt essential a backing of mono can help to stop the braid from slipping, then using the drag of the alvey as resistance wind the braid back onto the stradic. Hope this helps.

Here goes,

I simply use 2 butterfly nuts, with washers and a tennis ball.
The tennis ball is the tensioner, I simply tighten as tight as possible
for when wanting to strip line off and use a drill to do job.

When loading a reel have the missus, when in a good mood.
To hold on to the bar and I wind on at the required tension to
load my spool nice and tight

thanks guys I thought that might be the prob. Ive got a charter special with no line on it at the moment so Ill use that under load to wind it off/on.
I do use mono for backing too, you have to.

Another ezyfix is to find a nice big deep stretch of open water and tie on a big deep diving lure...something down to 8 metres plus and go for a bit of a troll. let out all your line and then retrieve at suitalble speed to produce the load you need. the 8m diver will give plenty of load, especially when trolled at 5 knots and retrieved at the same time.
This might sound a bit more complicated than some other options but you never know.....you might get a hookup which could produce the best load of all.

but then you might get spooled too :-[ :'(.
