Did my usual search on Ebay and spotted this new "...SR842-2 IMX Spinning Rod" at

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&item=170039283734&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

and am just questioning did I get the factory replacement warranty wrong somewhere? Don't G Loomis factory rods come with a lifetime unconditional warranty, not 12 months? Or is this because it's a custom rod?

Asked the question and got this reply:-

"This is a custom rod - as such has no association with the loomis company.
It's actually fortunate that I'm offering such a warranty on ebay as it's
rarely done."

So I asked:-

"Sorry -------, but I only looked at the bottom where you said that "This rod, like all Loomis factory rods in the country includes a 12month unconditional replacement warranty. Simply return the damaged rod and have it replaced for $145." I thought all Loomis factory rods carried the lifetime replacement warranty. I must be missing something.

And the response was:-

"Geoff,

You're right actually - the factory rods in the country carry a lifetime
warranty - and the 12month timeframe is within their lifetime, as such they
carry a minumum of a 12month warranty. That is what I'm implying. Thanks for
spotting that though.

Regards
--------

I'd love to own a Loomis rod but I feel I might be missing something here. I'm not implying anything but am totally confused :-/ Can anyone illuminate me please?
Regards
Geoff

You can get Loomis blanks out of the States quite cheap, factory direct, but no warranty. Strangely enough the cost of a Loomis blank is about the amount you have to fork over to claim your "lifetime warranty" on your $800 Loomis rod. ;D Strange that.

Hi Geoff,
I bought and wrapped my own quite a while ago now.Upon questioning the warranty before purchase I was told :-

The blank would be covered by a lifetime warranty,But...It would only be honoured if the blank was found (By Loomis) to have failed due to a fault in their manufacturing process. And that loomis could not be responsible for a rod built by those not associated with their company.

Not sure if this still stands today.Or even if I was given the correct information at the time.

I bought it,Built it,And have fished it hard.It is the only spin rod I own,And these days it is rarely used. But it is still a great rod that is structurely sound.

This rod cost me under $200 to complete with Fuji SIC's throughout.

It is cheap to build ya own.And if looked after it'll last a lifetime.

G'day Geoff

Something just does not sound right about the replies to your questions (from ebay seller not ausfish members). The feedback rating for this seller is only 97.5% which is not that great. It would pay to be cautious.

Cheers

I think your doing well to have a warranty offered at all from an ebay listing, particularly when that is an unconditional warranty from what i gather from that listing, not a bad deal if you ask me. The seller is in no way obligated to offer you any warranty yet they are choosing to - take it or leave it mate.
