hey boodo
even know you are looking for an overhead it sounds like your looking for the use of an egg beater they are fast retreaving. good for floating baits and are great to cast

Shimano Torium or a Daiwa Saltist HS,both prety good performers with the Daiwa being a little more robust in my opinion.

Hey mate
Shimano Speedmaster, i think their around $200, they are high speed and you can cast them easy.

Exactly what I would suggest snapperm8. I have an Abu Ambassadeur 6000 and they are great casting and have minimal parts for a bait cast reel. Nice and cheap too. The 7000 sized reels are around $130 with the 6000's $100. The 7000 is probably better since you want a fast retreive.

I will stand to be ridiculed, but Penn Jigmaster 500 is relatively very cheap, casts suprisingly well, has a quite smooth drag and will work to 15kg mono. Best at 8 - 10kg, IMO. Low cost alternative available via Ebay USA, or occasionally seen on Ebay Aus. New for about $100 absolute max. Check feedback before buying, we are talking Ebay here, so buyer beware. I have a couple of these reels, great lightweight small profile 8 - 10 kg reels, suprisingly smooth drag. Note well however, this reel has a retreivel rate of about 4:1, if you want higher, the Saltist at 6:1 would be my personal choice within your budget, although the Speedmaster is also well worthy of consideration, IMO as is the Daiwa SL50XHV at 6:1.

boodo,
beach, boat or?
Casting slugs to tuna in Qld or depleted uranium artillery projies as sinkers in Victoria?
For an all rounder quick and dirty cast no matter whether into wind or not (eg slugs in Qld) go for a TSS4 or another threadline. If casting big weights and maybe big baits big distances, then maybe an overhead is the go.
Since this is a Qld site, go the Sidecast, or as my Vic mates call them the revolving ashtray.

Hi guys. I have just purchased a shimano tyrnos. it has a 5:1 ratio, perfect for high speed retrieve. it has a massive handle shaft so there is enough power for large fish. It was featured on one of the Ifish episodes. It is a bit large for casting but is perfect for floating baits/live baiting/trolling. I have the Tyrnos 30 with the matching T-curve Rod. The reel is about $260 so it is not too bad for what it is.
Good luck. G.

Have a look at the new improved Abu 6600C4, 6.3:1 retrieve and there are plenty of hot up bits and drag upgrades available. If you want to go bigger, look at the 7500C3, 5.3:1 retrieve on the bigger spool is plenty fast and same upgrade bits available as the smaller 65/6600 either one will cast out the back of the break with ease. Contact Jack Erskine and get hold of some new Carbontex drag washers for either and they'll punch above their weight surprisingly well.

If you want an overhead than go the shimano Tsm 4. Though in all reality the best suiting reel would be the tss 4. I've caught 40lb barra, 25lb macks and 20lb trevs on the tss 4. For the money the best reel out and will outlive most other reels on the market .
