i am thinking of dabbling in fly fishing, to those that are into it, what is the preferred fly rod weights to use for saltwater ??

I think you will find it depends on what you are intending on chasing.
There are quite a few blokes here who flyfish so they will have more input than I could.
I use a little fresh outfit for picking up mullet or gar, not too game on trying it out on something of considerable size just yet.

Yep depends what yr chasing!
5-7 weight in the estuaries. outside 7weight and beyond! ;D

Redington make a good, cheap combo in a 7/8 weight. i got mine for 150 bucks and have caught small river trout to large lizards on it. combo comes 9ft rod & reel loaded with 20lb dacron backing, 8WF Int line and a 6lb tapered leader.

its the crosswater series and i got it from a tackle shop in wollongong (ern webbs)

Also looked at the redington crosswater fly rods. Fly guy at TW raves about it. Uses one himself.
