I reckon with all the experience we have here that its probably a very good thing to start a thread about -

Rod, reel & general tackle maintenance & care.

Got any special tips or advise for looking after and correctly maintaining your fishing gear ?

Things you should do with your new gear, before using it for the first time ?

Do you know any very good products, lubricants or greases for reels ?

The best way to care for for rods ?

How to remove stains from lures, tackle boxes & etc ?

Cheap storage solutions & ideas ?

Add in any ideas you have.

8-) 8-) 8-)

Cheers

If you use bait casting reels the best oil to use by far is Yellow Rocket Fuel. It will add distance to anyones cast and eliminate all those little squeeks you hear. There is also a Red Rocket Fuel for serioius competiton casters, I don't recommend it for the average fisherman.

To clean the tarnish off of your metal baits (spinnerbaits, jigging spoons, slab jigs) use a white paste tooth paste. Rub it on and buff off with a damp cloth.
