I am a late returner to the fishing game and am trying out trolling for the 1st time. We have been catching GTs, Queenies and some Barracuda but I want to add another reel and have been eying off the 7000 Abu but I am a bit hesitant about the Made in Taiwan Sticker.
I haven't been able to find specific reference to the quality of the Abu gear after moving to Taiwan and I am hoping some one can give me some help.
I have been using 20lb mono and troll at about 4 knots.
Also the wife likes the pretty red colour.
Thanks in advance
Polly
I have an abu ambassaduer myself and it is made in sweeden, been a great reel, never had a problem, however i personally would'nt buy one made form taiwan. just out of curiosity how much is it worth.?

Thanks Mat, It varies from $159 to $199 around town.
for that price you would expect it too be half decent

The chrome plating on the new 7000 doesn't appear to be on par with the old swedish ones from all reports plus the they now recommend that with regular use you replace the level wind pawl and worm gear every 6 months. I know of 20yr old 7ks' that have never needed spares beyond a drag fix from time to time that are still going strong. I wouldn't buy a taiwanese 7000 either but I have a swedish 7000 doing nothing I can sell you if you want one. Alternatively, I know where there's a brand spanking new swedish one advertised for $130 if you're quick. PM me if you want to follow it up.
Cheers

Thanks for the replies, sorry I can't pm you Bushbasher but I am a brand new member and I have to post 10 times to be eligible to pm.
I have now been steered towards a TLD-15, Tyrno (bit dear for me), a Tekota, a Charter Special and a Daiwa Sealine.
I think some of the above are a bit too heavy for my kind of fishing.
Thanks for the offer and I may get back to you about your 2nd hand one afetr I have finished annoying the crap out
of my local Tackle guys.
