I know they are crap but it is always good to keep a rod in the car. So what are the best ones available? I am willing to spend to about $60

Cheers

P.S I don't mind if it is just the rod as I have a reel ready to go, but will buy combo if required to.

I have an 5 piece carbon fibre traveler and it cost $250
If you buy quality and spend a few bucks you can get a great rig.
Don't leave home without it.

I have a telescopic 21 foot squid pole in the garage. (From down South)

It collapses down to about 4 feet and is rated for 6 - 12 Kg line.

With that length - who needs a reel, just lower the rod tip to the water and your 21 feet down.

Inside the end cap, I store approximately 20 feet of line rigged with a clip swivel both ends.

Just clip on your rig and extend awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

I haven't used it in Qld, just keep it as an oddity.

I have seen UK course fishermen use them in competitions on TV. To pull in the fish, they just collapse the rod, section by section.

The Greek and Italian squid fisho's in Melbourne just use them to swing the squid (real Southern Calamari) up next to them on the piers.

(Obviously the squid in the pic was caught on a boat, not from a pier. A bl00dy nice squid, nevertheless)
