Hey, everyone.
I'm heading out to Lady Elliot Island on a four day charter on Thursday. Will post a report when I get back. I'm told that big reds and snapper are schooling up at the moment.
Any tips or hints before I go. ;D ;D

Half your luck, have fun.
Do yourself a favour and spool up with Braid if you are taking your own gear, especialy if you are bottom bashing.
You will feel every bite, even at 100m.
I have a Penn 6/0 here with 1000m of 50lb on it, and rod, if you want to borrow it give me a yell. I think the drag washers might need a little attention but other than that it is ready to go.

Steve
Thanks for the offer but my mate has some TLD25's on shortstrokers that he reckons are pretty good so will stick to them. He also just stocked up on a heap of braid.
Thanks

Derek/Steve,
I too am heading out to fish the deeper Reefs/Shelf, east from 1770. The plan is to spool my TLD20 with 50 lb Stren (Yet another brand of non stretch string). Can you recommend a suitable glove that should be used when bait fishing with braid etc. When fishing the estuary for small fish, the glove is not an issue but big offshore fish, deep water and big overhead reels, could be a different story or am I just being a wimp ?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards
Craigie.
Craigie,
forget the glove mate. We go out from 1770 to Musgrave and Elliot etc a fair bit and have never used a glove except for cleaning time.If you don't touch the braid while it's running you won't get hurt. ;DI'll give you a tip though-give the parrots to someone else to clean ;D

I'm back on dry land.
The weather was sh...y but man did the fish co-operate. Left Urangan Harbour at midnight Thursday and arrived back mid-afternoon Sunday. The charter was aboard MV Summer Bay run by Time and Tide Charters. Check them out on the web at http://www.tntfish.com
Jeff Taylor was the skipper and does he know his stuff. We caught heaps of fish with the tops being Red Emperor and Snapper, but that's what I went for anyway.
Steve, you were right about that braid. It's magic.
