WOW! - that's fishin'
With one of the best Heavy Tackle seasons underway for yonks, its not surprising to hear reports of monster blacks - more than 20 black marlin over the magic 1,000lb mark have been tagged this past three weeks in the northern waters between Cairns & Lizard Island.
The latest report confirmed a monster of 1,389lb being landed off No.5 Ribbon Reef onboard "Monaki" a truly superb catch.
Our good friends onboard New Moon III have landed six marlin over the magic mark during that time and plenty of other quality marlin from 300 - 850 lb as well.
Other prized fish landed included a 27kg dog tooth tuna - and cop this - three jigs went down, three instant hook ups, three bust off's - all on 24kg tackle which was just not strong enough to handle these brutes. One group landed one dog tooth out of 13 hook ups! No wonder they have such an awesome reputation for destroying tackle, and anglers pride.
And if that's not enough what about yellowfin tuna to 20kg, spanish (king) mackerel to 20kg and plenty of reef dwellers designed to pull your arms off -just to make the evening interesting.
We are getting a few late enquiries and there are still a few gaps on some of the best boats - send us a message if wanting to get in on the action this year / season.
Regards, Les
