After getting bait un the afternoon the heavens decided to open up & pour. We waited & wait & waited some more. Until around 10pm, the rain lightened up so we decided to wet a line. When we arrived at our location the water was alive. It is so true that an afternoon storm gets the fishing going. We set our baits & it wasn't long before our first run. A good bream of around 1kg was landed. We had a few more runs, but they were only bream & we landed another of around 750g. It was around 01:00 am & thing started to quiet down a bit. The bashing & crashing of predators hitting the hapless bait fish, had reduced considerably. We were startled at the sound of the reel screaming. This was no bream & good fish. I struck hard & I was in. After a few big head shakes & a couple of hard runs, it come to the surface. All 4.5 kg of gleaming, dark maroon Mangrove Jack.
It was landed & then watched with open mouths, mainly due to the size of the bugger. Our biggest jack to date.
He tasted great on the BBQ. ;)
