View Full Version : Fished the spit 19th feb
I fished the spit this afternoon, I only caught a few dart but all being rats. But I was fishing a area where there weren't any sized gutters forming. :( :(
I'll give it another go next week, hopefully i'll find a few deeper gutters. ::)

Guys what sorta timeframes is it to get through south passage from the boat ramp....Say wellington point on a good day.....And how dangerous is the bar to cross as i wouldnt imagine thered be any channel markers out there!! Is it safe for a 15Ft runabout to cross??

Craig, that looking at the southern end of nth straddy.
bazza, its about 25ks once your through the bar, how fast does your boat go?
No its not safe, in any conditions in any boat there will always be risk.

lol ;D better slow down for the bar then, add on another minute ;)
10ks - 20ks gets you to the 24-35s north, 50s south about 30ks

bazza all people need to be a bit sceptical about bar crossings, coming or going. have been over sth passage more times then i would like to recount, (boats 13 ft to 60 ft) and have seen it change with the tide. this bod is getting to old to be brave like mack, been there done that, and no fish is worth it, (also found it is cheaper to go to far safer places for the same fish) when in doubt dont go out eh, simple rule, that way you keep a heap of other ppl safe by not looking for u. There is no such thing as a safe boat, only a safe mind. think about it. not having a go at you here rob, just my ho. btw how did this get off fishing the spit
cheers

Ill have to agree with ya on that one jaybee...Thats why i usually go out off mooloolabah as it has no bar and the reefs are a stones throw from the bar for almost the same fish!!...Fished old woman island not so long ago and had five or so good hits on lures in the space of half an hour!!Good place to fish for variety!! Thanks for your thoughts too!!

Yeah murphys and inner and outers usually fishes well in winter for all varieties....My first trip up there last year yeilded a 3kg parrot and snapper to the same size....Some good patches off reef inclose too where some nice pearlies have been caught.....Boaties just drive on past to the barwons when they can be almost catchin the same a quarter of the distance!!

Wayne,
I was at narrow neck today just to have boo peek. There were a couple of larger gutters forming there today. I'm planing on going down thursday arvo weather permitting.
Jaybee I haven't heard of many whitting being caught at sand pumping jetty so far this year. I was there last week but a little further south. But not much happening.
I'm just waiting for a low tide in the arvo with a 5 to 15 knt SE blowing and then I 'll hit the jetty. Could be on the cards this Thursday. if not narrow neck it is :D :D :D
