Why don't you tell us where you fish (Southport Seaway??), what times and tides, which baits or lures, the tackle you use, etc. Then someone might be able to suggest something.

If you are talking about the Southport Seaway, I'd suggest that you go on a charter with Brad Smith. He will use methods and locations which DO catch fish. Then you'll know what to do next time.

yeah i only thought about doin that after i made the post. i have fished around the wall on the start of the incoming tide in the eddies like everyone says and didnt have a hit on soft plastics. tried the bridge to the right off the wall (oppastite end to the sundale) and the bridge further up and got one 46cm whiting. that has to be sad as thats the only one legal fish i have cought up there. if i wanted to catch this kinda fish id stay here on the tweed. but yeah thats the only area's we have fished so far as we have no idea about the place. we have a 4.2 metre tinny so we can get into lots of places, i carry a 3kg bream/squidgy stick (egg beater) a 5kg and a 10kg baitcaster and a 7kg spin stick so i have a few bases covered. any help will do wonders if it can catch me some fish. i hear al about these bigguns up there but i have never managed to mess with any. cheers for your help nayways ;D ;D ;D

I'd have to admit that I haven't caught much around the Seaway itself myself, but I don't fish there very often. I do have a spot halfway up the broadwater which is fairly reliable for flathead and a few other good flathead spots at Jumpinpin.

10kg is a bit light on, when i used to fish there 24kg was the way to go, out to the end of the wall in 20m and send down a big livebait, a big sinker above a long trace works well, whiting yakkas the best i found. bad weather is good, the gts should be schooling off the northern and southern points while its rough, jigging 65-85gram radiers is another option for them, wire up if you fish further out in the seaway as good hammers run through there, live mullet are good for them

bigal, i used to have trouble pulling fish out of the seaway, but now I'm regularly pulling good fish out of there. The best advice I was given was to cast in close to the rocks...real close. The majority of the fish hang right along the edge of the rocks, though you will see fish surface feeding out in the middle occasionally, cast at any boil you see no matter how small. I lure fish almost exclusively and the majority of my catch is tailor ,trevally and kingfish. Poppers and slugs are my main lures, softies will work but you'll go through alot of em. If the fish aren't in close to the wall, chances are they'll be down the bottom. Use your sounder and cast a few slugs out let em sink down and rip em back, this works well at times over the pipeline and towards the mouth of the seaway.

bigal - for the most part the better fish are caught very early morning or at night, the traffic through there with jetskis, trawlers, fishos, wave jumping boats, surfers, etc probably has something to do with it. would love to see a photo of that 46cm whiting, the biggest I have ever heard was 47cm and 1kg from the brunswick but that was unverified and probably a bit of an exaggeration.

I may be wrong but i can't see why the big swells wouldn't be at the seaway (given that all the beaches have been copping a pounding) and given your admission about your swimming ability it may pay to give it a miss. :-/

The seaway can be fished in all weather, all winds. Places like the pipeline and the north wall of wavebreak both good fish spots at the right times are safe for all boats. However whether the ends of the north and south wall are fishable(which is where alot of fish are taken) depends on a number of things, swell height, swell direction, the stage of the tide and wind strength. With a big SE well the south wall is a whitewash but the north wall is fishable as long as there is no strong southerly wind(such as this morning..it didn't get up til 8am)Its not for the faint of heart, but not dangerous if you stay aware of whats happening around you. ie dont get too close to the rocks, dont get pushed into the breakers north of the wall. The rules are simple, if there are waves breaking dont go there. Incidentally, some thumper tailor there this morning, got 2 around 3 kilos each and one just over 2 kilos.
