David Green landed a 12.25kg snapper off the Pin Bar today.
The biggest I've heard of for many years - it should be on Brownies tonight.
He was busted up twice before he landed that one - he thinks the smallest of the three.
He's emailing me a picture - when I get it I'll put it up here.

Hey Brewman,

Is it the same spot he's been braining them for some time now (well at least the last couple of years) ??

Cheers Craigie

I can answer that one - new ground he'd never fished before.
Was just doing some scouting around a little away from where he usually fishes when he found what looked like good ground..

My eyes must be failing me,that looks more like a Heath Zygnerski than a David Green, nice Red though at that size I thought it would have been much uglier,I've often wondered if there was maybe two species of snapper and that the difference is not recognisable until they reach a larger size. The Long Spined Snapper I believe is a seperate species as oposed to a sub species, anyone know if a study has been done on the southern Snapper?

Recent studies indicate that the lump and ugly head is actualy a desease - some get it worse than others and Kiwi snapper don't get it at all.

very clean lookin' melon on it! you sure thats not from whyalla?? hahaaa. might have to respool with some 80lb superbraid- i been wondering about my bust offs! ???
in whyalla they catch em' nearly 20kilo on 1 and 2 kilo tackle-but thats on clean ground with no reefs like up here- on memory the record on one kilo was 42lbs! :o

You might want to check on the validity of those photo's.
I'm a good mate of Daves and in the past have done some airbrushing of his fish foto's to look more impressive in the stainless workshop.
In all seriousness, Dave's pics are usually genuine...it's his old man Geoff that needs airbrushing assistance with the guppy's he usually catches.
I also just called him on the phone to congratulate him on the fish....note that he will only answer the phone to "Snapper Legend" now ! ::)
