I know a lot of you were working today, but, I only had one client show up this morning which gave me the chance to also wet a line.
Spotties were a bit small this morning early and only taking shunks out of the live slimies so decided to head out to spot x and chase a wahoo for my lucky solo client.
Started towing my favourite lure and hooked a nice hoo within the first few minutes. Daniel was stoked and only took 20 minutes to acheive his best fish ever.
While he was sitting admiring his fish I started slow trolling a live slimie because the lure was deep in the hoo's mouth and I didnt want to interupt my client as he sat hugging his fish!
It didnt take long and my ratchet started doing its thing to another good fish.
Ten minutes later I was expecting to see another hoo emerge from the depths but to my surprise a rather large Spaniard swam up and decided it didnt like the look of me and took off again.
Finally I sank the gaff and 25.100kilos of prime spaniard hit he deck. My biggest to date. Needless to say I joined my client on the floor and started hugging my fish!!
Home by 10am with a smile we are having trouble wiping off our faces.
I've included 2 photos.
Cheers, Capt Mark Mono Stewart

It might look like Mono has been hitting the top shelf in the past few weeks but the truth is that this goes on every day, all bloody year round!
The only change is that I showed him how to re-size and post photos last time I was down there - now you're all going to suffer.
Remember jealousy is a curse....!

Sorry fellas!

If thats the case Nugget you will need to show mono how to cut/resize and paste the fish only in his pics so we all stop suffering from size envy ::)

Hey Mono
Meant to ask you on the previous post - What are your thoughts and what do you tell your clients about the dreaded ciga toxin in the XOS size hoo and blues down this way .Have you ever found it to be a problem ?

Jeff, water is starting to cool a touch in close but fingers crossed!
Reel Job, no its not Moreton Island in the background its actually Cape Byron and Brunswick Heads although it could be Moreton as I hear they get some huge Hoo and Spaniards up there too.
Chris, Yes I do let clients know about the ciga toxin in large pelagics but down here but as far as I'm aware there has only been one reported outbrake in northern NSW waters. That occured last year and 5 people got sick from the one fish which was bought from the local seafood shop. Realistically the statistics are on your side and the chances of getting sick are extremely remote. If in doubt, give some to the cat first. Apparently if you rub the liver of the fish on your lips and they go numb then the fish is infected enough to affect humans. The liver is were the toxin is generated through apparently. We just ate some of the big mackerel so if you dont hear from me again you know I'm in hospital or worse!
Macka, Yes I'm in the NSW Fisheries Taging Program and I have a boat limit of one Wahoo over 4feet per angler. Nobody has ever complained, yet! Fish caught over my boat limit are tagged most of the time and hopefully survive to fight another day. The hard bit is getting the lure out without doing too much damage.
P.S. Thanks Nugget, but dont beleive everything he says, yes we do pretty good down here but its not really an everyday occurance. I certainly try my hardest for my clients and myself to make it one of those days but some days are a bit tough as most anglers know.
Cheers Capt Mono
