Gday all, names Mick, new to this chat board.
Fished upper Mulgrave river this mornin, got a couple of little sooties. Saw a heap more tho.
1 question: almost every retrieval of my lure or fly was followed by about 4 to 6 decent size sooties, sometimes alot more, but nomatter what i did to try to get them to take the lure, nothing worked. It was very fustrating, anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Mick,
Maybe the lure you wre offering was just a bit too big.....I fish all the northern rivers for sooties, JP's etc and find small prppers (especially Rebel Pop R's in 6cm size and smaller), as well as similarly sized minnow lures work very well.

Thanks for that Les, I will try some smaller lures.
Mick.

Fished a few times up the Russel River, right up where it reaches the mountains. Have caught 40+ sooties up there and occasional jungle perch.

Use very small lures or even small plastics would do the trick. We found that the more we moved up the river the better the catch. It doesnt get fished much up there.
