My son and i fished the b/water saturday night, trying to score a prize winner for the King of Pin, we targeted Jew, but nil results, but picked up a couple of nice talior in the seaway.
Then headed north and scored some nice breambo's, best was 42cm and a 65cm lizard.
Meet up with Dave at the weigh-in, but none of our catch, could register on the board.
Think the best bream was 1.5kg (not sure) Dave will most likely give some better results.

Good try Webby ,
There are sone pretty good bream there .
Its bl##dy tough when you have to beat 1.5Kg .
If I heard it correctly on 4BC this morning some one weighed in a 5.5 Kg Tailor that was caught inside the Pin Area .
That one would have been a good live bait for your Jew ;D ;D ( I hope Nuggett posts the winning sizes ).

Yeah Dave said something about that 5kg Tailor this morning... thats a pretty mean effort.

Good haul there Webby... shoots my theory down that theres no fish left in the broadwater when ya pull out fish like that.

Nice catch there Webby.

I fished the pin Sat night with thousands of others. Started Sat pm with 3 flatties and a few diver whiting in the first 30 min, but that was about it for the trip.

Diver whiting became live bait, both of which were subsequently eaten, but both fish were dropped without setting the hook. One was a nice flattie that held on almost until the landing net.

Catch for the night was two legal bream, two pike eels, one knot eels, a small sole, an undersize muddy and a jenny sand crab. Lack of fish activity just reinforced how bloody cold it was - nothing else to do but think about how uncomfortable it was.

Like the rest would be good to see what the winners caught and get an idea of the areas they fished.

Geez Webby, your 42 cm Bream would have been getting close to the winner, at a guess it would have been about 1.3 kg ??
Did you score the Bream at your Oyster Spot ???

On Sunday morning, I ducked down to the 'Pin' for a couple of hrs. A quick stop at the Jacob's Well bait and Tackle revealed some guy's weighing-in a few monster Tailor. The 4 fish that I saw were all around 5kg's, from memory the biggest was about 5.3 kg. It was about 8.30am and these guys were still rugged up with Jumpers, Beanies and waders after a Snap-frozen night on the beach at South Straddie.

Anyhow, my trip produced nothing for the esky, but I did get the 'Plastics' chomped and biten off a couple of times.

Cheers
Craig.

Hi Yeah cragie the old oyster places was spot on, only one other boat in there with me. Couldnt tell where the bream came, but it wasnt in the top 3 ;D.
Picked up the lizards on the way into the oyster farm, you know where ;D
As per out trip there, i made a new channel out again ;D
Friggin colder then an arctic breeze 8)
Met up with Danny Gerrad used to write for B & B on the bay, he told me a spot to go to , where big big bream hang out, the only trubles is you have to get them past the sharks ;D, will chat to you about it, and see if we can beat the sharks ;D.
Was takin g Bugman to B/water, but he was at the fish markets, cant catch them on a line so he's there buying ;D.

they put on a good show the Sundowners Fishing Club - well done.

The M.C. did alright too ... for a young fella ;)

His best work was when he asked the young Preston? boy who came second in a prize why he didn't just weigh in one of the bigger bream his old man caught but didn't weigh in - the kids response - THAT WOULD BE CHEATING.

Shame Pink Shirt's crew didn't know that lesson - sitting just behind my family - & not real subtle either (had to explain to my 5 yr old the concept as he overheard them).

EXCELLENT COMP SuNDOWNERS - the genorous & worthwhile idea of encouraging kids to fish with junior prizes could only be improved by having the juniors weigh in prior to the seniors.

Hi all
I spent from friday night till sunday morning at the pin trying to catch that big bream too.
Spent the nights in cobby passage and wasnt too bad there not much wind and calm as, thats where we ended up catching most of our catch for the weekend.
Tried a few different spots down there during the day but not much about, too many boats around like queen st mall.
All up ended up with 7 bream biggest 33cms 2 flatties 42-45 1 whitting and a big mud crab I caught on the rod, got 3 of them but only managed to boat 1.
Good weekend, not too cold, got rugged up and plenty of coffee lol

Actually Webby, couldn't afford the prices at the Fish market.

$22.99 for who squire
$10.99 for whole tailor
Even $24.99 for filletted Morwong.

Greg, what can I say - I'm getting soft in my old age - and I heard that Webby's misses hadn't cooked us dinner like last time so it was an easy decision.

yet another reason to fish the surf - a surf fishos best secret - the colder the air the deeper ya wade - water temps never below 16C.

$10.99 for whole tailor
... $24.99 for filletted Morwong.

that's insane $10.99 for a day old unbled & bruised tailor. Twenty five bucks for a smelly old slatey.

Brett..I spent a lot of my childhood years sitting in a 12 foot rowboat down at the Pin..in all types of weather..too bloody far to row back to Jacobs Well..ya get used to it...PLUS...a litre or 2 of Mr. Stones Winter Cure-All works wonders.

And I bought a wood fired pizza oven on Saturday..it was great out under the pergola..pizza cooking in the oven..the oven keeping the area warm and a nice glass of wine in hand..wunderbar.

Photographer's eye mate........comes 2nd nature to look for "intrusive" objects. Did a wedding once where the bride and groom were leaving the church in a horse and carriage. Took a couple of 'em leaving and off to one side is the mother-in-law of the groom stood in a heap of horse shit......it's got pride of place in his photo album :-)

Pinhead

I drank a bottle of Stones on Sat night. It didn't help much - as cold as I've been on a night out fishing. The breeze seemed to go straight through everything.
