Sorry to hear that Gary.

Maybe with a bit more local knowledge, you can do better.

Places like Deep Creek, further down the Straights, tend to fire up this time of year.

Whiptails and Grinner, bugga. Sounds like you were out near Moon Ledge ?

This time of year the bottom of Big Woody island fishes well for the diver whiting, also worth trying the Arti but only only for about an hour either side of high or low tide. This time of year on the arti a lot of undersize squire are caught. However, with the colder weather size will appear.

I spent the weekend up Wathumba way in mid may and caught a mixed bag of tuna, makerel, trevally, kingfish, squire, grinners, catfish, sharks and sweetlip.

As for the success for makerel on metal I have taken a few new approaches in the retreival as I found last time I started using a quick stop - start action and this worked wonders !! Even hooked up to a whiptail on a small lazer metal lure which in turn was taken for a run by a makerel ! End result was half a whiptail !! Next cast I caught a tuna on a 6kg strudwick spin rod with the lazer and had to play it for half an hour before boating it ! Very good fun !
