G'day all,

My brother and I fished the Bongaree canal Saturday night at Bribie for nothing. :( There was mullet jumping around, but the sp's couldn't entice the preditors. ??? We ended up using bait for a while, but no luck. There was plenty of weed around, and it hindered the action of the sp's. :( My brother found a few squid near the bridge, but the jig was bigger than the squid were and so they were scared away. :P I attained a few war wounds from climbing over oyster encrusted rocks, but what do you expect. :-/ Unfortunately the tide was at its low when we were there, but you can only work with what you've got. :-/

The next day, about 12:30pm to 3:00pm, we fished under the Bribie Bridge from the bank. I think it was the last of the run in tide. My brother hooked up well, landing another midday squid. ::) The 'squid slayer' ;) then managed to drop another monster squid. :-[ He later switched to squid for bait and nailed a little golden trevally (I think). ;D But today I showed my brother up. ;D I used a 65mm pink squidgey fish tail, and managed through all the weed flowing through the passage, to get a HIT. ;D It wasn't a small hit either, went to flick the lure up again and BANG. :o Using six pound line it was plenty of fun. The drag worked well, as I readjusted it when it started peelinging the line off. 8) I didn't know what it was, but it was strong, and then as I got it closer to the bank, positive identification, it was a flathead. It was my biggest flathead, and my biggest fish on plastics. So powerful in the water, I was careful not to let its head get out of the water. After one last run, I brought the flathead up onto the bank smoothly. ;D My brother threw me the measuring stick, sweet, not too big (they always seem bigger than what they are). It didn't take long and the crowds flocked to the area making the fishing uncomfortable. :(

So the plastics rule again. When I got home I weighed the fish on digital scales and it was 1.027 kg. It also measured 52cm. My biggest flathead so far. :)

Nice work....we wade the flats a bit further north of the bridge on high tide, and have landed numerous nice flatties and bream over the weed beds ;)
