At last the wind has slowed up a bit and I was able to go out. ;D Hooked up with a few macko's, at a reef about 50 mile out. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] Scored a few nice size trout on the bottom when the macko's went off the chew at around 8am. Did anyone else up townsville way get out in the last couple of days.

Yeah, the weather has finally started to look good. Sounds like you had a good day out. If you ever looking for someone to split the fuel with, give us a yell!!!

Hey Wild Side, Got out from Cairns Tuesday arvo for a few hours. Weather was ok but not the best. Got a few trout, several redtroat and 1 average red emperor. But hey it was better than working.
Cheers Ron

Nah, didn't get out. Weather didn't stop me but budget did. Oh and the fact that there were 3 cars parked in front of the boat >:( !!! But went landbased instead off the breakwall with a friend chasing hairtail & wolfies. No wolfies but plenty of hairtail (7 all up - took 2 for bait, one for cat and My friend took the rest) and a very small (30cm ish) mackerel. Lots of fun on the kids rod (13lb on a little yellow scooby doo spaghetti stick).
Look out mackerel if I ever get out! I'll let ya's know when, there's always room.

Never used wolfies before, how do you rig em :-[. I nealy always use lures or live yackers. There was deffently plenty out there but as the day went on they just went off the chew< but they were still there. " THERE WAS DOZENS SWIMMING AROUND THE BOAT" >:( >:( >:( >:(

G'day wildside.
With the wolfies, rig them to swim while trolling. Use enough hooks ganged for the length of the wolfie (could be 8 or so hooks). Use a chinguard, can be bought from most tackle shops. It's important to get the tow point in the centre of the wolfie, other wise will spin when trolling. Can also be rigged for drift fishing under a float, or floating in a burley trail. They make really good baits for big mackies. If you can get them rigged up properly, they will swim with a real nice wiggle.
