View Full Version : Pin' Sunday
Headed up the pin sunday with the ol man for fathers day. I decided it was time to teach an old do new tricks and put him onto the lure scene. Had a top day and caught plenty of fish for table. Got around 9 all up, few released and some kept for eating.
The ol man with an ugly stargazer :P

JB,
Good catch for a days "Luring", looks like one nice "Crocodile" amongs them.
Love that monster kill tank in the Trailcrafts, doubles as a great "live well" also.
Am sending DC a bit of info on catching Flathead around Jumpinpin, if your nice to him ::) he might share some of it with you ;)

my favorite gazer recipe, they are a delicous fish.
*fillet the ugly thing trying not to look at its vile appearance
*skin the fillet- you will end up with a big fat fillet
*place this on a greased sheet of tinfoil doubled over
*put on a square of butter, some cracked pepper & finely diced chives & wrap it all up
*bake in a 200o preheated oven/camp oven for 5 -10mins depending on the thickness
best served with mashed spuds
(can be made even more spesh by adding a tablespoon of pure cream & s splash of good chardonnay & using whole greens peppercorns instead but you may be called a poof by ya mates - real men just eat butter & don't frig around with food like that)
Always a welcome surprise - have never caught one on a lure - you did well on light line - if it got that jaw in the sand it would've been game over. The only place I could almost guarantee someone I could catch one is the actual point of amity point on an outgoing tide
haha, nice recipie chris , i keep hearing about how nice they taste next time i think i'll fillet the bugger. ;D

well worth the effort to fillet - you end up with a chunk of pinky white flesh tasting like reef-fish. Cut in tight & diagonally behind the head - most of the flesh is on the shoulder with a good amount in under the gill plate-skull area. Be careful not to pierce the gall bladder - may be worth gutting before filleting them as i do cause they do have a sizeable gallbladder.
Don't insult it by frying - its too nice & delicate in flavour for that.
Well done on the flatties too - looks like another good season.
