Hello all,
Once again headed out to the 36 fathom reefs off the Gold Coast on Sunday. Had my old man and brothers on board for a fathers day on the water. Headed out at 5:00am then having to hang around and wait for the bait to scoal up at sun rise before they would hit the jig.
22km run out to a nice patch of reef, which was a quick trip as the ocean was an oil slick. First bait hit the water on the bait runner with a big livie and within 2 minutes was hooked up to a nice Cobia. He came straight to the surface and was boated without a fuss (about 12kg). Fishing was dead slow with only a nice flathead and flounder taken, and only pickers taking the baits. 9:30am the fishing picked up, with all the other boats begining to leave.
Always happens, as soon as the coffee is brought out a fish hits the baits. All of a sudden the bait runner was screaming again. This time there was a bit more weight. 10 minutes later a nice 10kg Amberjack popped up and was successfully gaffed (unlike last week). Esky was looking a little full by this stage. A snice squire/snapper was then caught soon after which topped the day off nicely.
Had a nice run home with a nor-wester flattening the ocean. Bloody luck fathers day with the weather. All in all a great day on the water
P.S. nice to get a bit of rain ;) ;)
