Fished Maroochy yesterday chasing Flathead on soft plastics gotta say it was hard work wind was blowing 20-25knts.Tide was just starting to run out when we put in so headed to the creek mouths and cast round for a while with no luck so decided to head up round Bli Bli islands, what a difference location made first cast my boy hooks up with a nice one that went 56cm a new record for him.Little did he know what lay ahead of him,for the day we got 7 score me 3 boy 4 ranging from 39cm to get this the boy got a 84cm monster all were released and I think I`ll have to here him crowing for the rest of the year.

I know of another 84 cm flathead caught over the weekend ;D. Very impressive looking at that size aren't they!
Also a great feeling to release a big breeder.

The flathead Comp at Caloundra had numerous fish in the high 70's and 80's! Biggest was 86cm....mine was only 77cm ;) They are around in good numbers though, should be around for a few more weeks yet!!

Hi Stack,
We were also on the river over the weekend and Monday, did it tough with all the boat and bloody jetski traffic (counted 24 jetski trailers at the ramp at eudlo ck on sunday, and about 7 boat trailers) on the saturday and sunday, but braved the cold and wind for a early morning session on Monday and had the cod hole to ourselves, the end result was a ripper of a flathead for the missus of 95cm and a few in the 45+ bracket and some GTs, just for variety, just some of the smaller fish kept for a feed , but the big mumma sent on her way to breed. The missus outfished me hands down, all of her fish falling to 60mm pink squidgy fish , wasnt till I changed tails that I started to get some hits. It was her first session on lures and she had a ball, even suggesting that I should stock up on them in case I ever run out sometime :o :o :o so off to give the tackle box a boost with the treasurers approval ;) ;) ;D she also gave me a big thumbs up after lashing out on a new pair of rod and reel combos for us (Symetre 1500s and Squidgy spin stiks) looks like I owe that fish a lot, now dont need approval for tackle purchases 8)
Had a heap of bream under the bridge pylons but were pretty much in lock jaw, tried all of my mini plastics for little lntrest. only after we threw some bread in did I get some hits on tiny white tails but no solid hookups.

Thats a good day Glen, the best time to fish Maroochy is during the week when all those little buzz boxes head home.Good to see a win for the boys over the women in the tackle shop.

Just read this post today... 95cm! :o :o Thats a beauty! Where are the pics!? Fish like that deserve to be photographed. As for heading to the tackle shop, its great to get the go ahead, but after a session like that I wouldn't be changing a thing ;D ;D ;)

dane,
sometimes those big girls can be real tricky too.
They just cruise up to the boat with very little fight then just explode metres away & they can really go hard

DC,
The pics are on the mobile phone, unfortunately that was the only camera that we had with us and not sure how to get the pic to the pc. The fish went really hard and was calling it for a larger than average trevor as some of the runs were 20-30 mts + wasnt till it got close to the top that it revealed herself as the grand fish she was. :o :o :o :o :o :o
The measurement wasnt 100 % accurate as the fish was approx 150mm longer than the fish sticker tapes, so might have been 930mm or 970mm, all I know is I could have fitted both fists in her gob and my fingers wouldnt meet when holding the wrist of her tail. :o :o
I dont think that the little lady relises how lucky she is to have caught such a fish in virtualy her fish proper lure session, I know guys who have targeted flathead all their lives a nd not tangled with such a fish ::)
Aint no way shes coming out this Marlin season ;)

Dang thats a big lizard/croc. So close to the elusive 1 metre though.....at least it will give you the encouragement to get back out there and catch one bigger, cos you know you won't hear the end of it until you do! Great fun though.
Cheers,
hutcho
