Hey guys,
Myself and some mates are heading up to Hervey Bay for two weeks of fishing starting next monday. We will be fishing from boats around the 5m size and equipped well enough for long runs (weather conditions and commonsense permitting).
I have previously done a fair bit of fishing on the east coast of Fraser Island and a couple of charters in HB but not ventured into this area in my own boat before although I have quite extensive experience elsewhere in it. Although we plan to register with the coastal patrol when we get up there and check in on a regular basis, any general boating safety advice on the bay would be greatly appreciated. (ie what direction winds spell trouble and where to watch out for prop damage etc).
Can someone please point us in the right direction for some of the famous fishing we have heard exists in this fine area? Some GPS marks would be very useful or any other form of local knowledge. We are into mainly catch and release fishing and generally take only one or two fish a day for a feed on most of our trips.
In the two weeks we would like to target different fish on different days. General species of interest are: GTs, Queenfish, Mackerel (yeah, I know about the ciga problem with these two so I wont be eating them) , barra (if we get really lucky). We will be fishing a mixture of hardbodied lures, sp's, dead baits and live baits depending on what we are targeting that day.
Thanks in advance,
Ash and the boys.
