Look at the water, perfect for trolling anywhere you want, I still reckon 6 hrs of trolling with one shot is better than bottom bashin
Well done mate

Come on gav
I'd be pretty pissed and pissed off after 6hrs of that.
If you give bottom fishing a go next time, try using something other than bait jigs and you might have a bit more luck :-X
Don't start pissing off bottom fishing folk we got lead and lots of it! ;D ;D
Verry nice fish there billo

Looking at shot #3 guys ...can anyone confirm what the hell that is hanging from it's mouth ??
It LOOKED like half it's damn throat track was pulled out of its gob ....even swimming it beside the boat for 15 minutes wouldn't see it retract into it's mouth ....
is this usual ?? ???

Tim,
pics came out good, me and jeff were at a loss as to what happened to it, thats just its guts hanging out, fish looks alive and well, they often throw em up, did the hooks get tangled round the guts? cant say ive ever seen em not go back in, maybe the water pressure of towing it was forcing em sideways got me stuffed, good topic for the MB, welcome to the club ;)

timbo- when a marlin eats something its not meant to ie- something spikey, will will throw its guts up to turn them inside out to get rid of that ever is in there... just about every one will do it but sometimes the stomach doesnt come out (you can just smell the contents on a calm day). i have had a few fish do it, and they have looked fine upon release, they should swallow their stomach at their own speed.

Fair call !
Funny , i have seen a handfull boatside but never seen the gizzards hanging out like that .
You learn something new every day hey !
yeh , the second hook did get tangled and tore it up a bit
It had plenty of colour when we brought it up ...stuff all kick to it though, the second half of the fight was it sideways and bill down planing and i was just trying to lift it against the drag .
I had it swimming for almost 15 minuutes boatside in the hope it would find some life but i hardly got a tail beat out of it . ??? ??? bummer !
I also had the other thought even if it did swallow it's gizzards back down the tearing of them could lead to some serious infections ...

Norm the small ones are quiet lively when they come to the boat, did it do much when you grabbed its bill?
once there being towed along they can be quiet contented to just coast along but norm after a while you will get a few headshakes to let you know there ready to go.

probably only wobbled its head once or twice when i grabbed the bill ...no thrashing , just a little wobble .
Then nothing when i was towing it along , not even a shake ..and that was atleast 10 minutes of towing .. ???

billo, we've had to tow sailfish for about 15-20 minutes for them to wake up, but usually you can also tell by their colour. For eg, that black on the w/end we could tell was ready to go, it just didnt really want to. We let it go and it flapped on the surface for a few secs before it realised what was going on and it swam off. Also, taking them out of the water makes them take alot longer to wake up.
How long was the fight?
Well done, CJ
