Well, decided to have a little bit of a different day out. Plan was to first put boat in and do little maintaince on the rollers on the trailer, (Always too lazy/ tired to do this when i come in.). Then a day on the water looking for some new ground and to try and get a feed.
Anyway leave the ramp at the Grand hotel at 8.30 and am told by a couple of blokes that the Mac Tuna are as thick as thieves just thru the seaway entrance.
Round the corner into the seaway and bugger me must have been 15 boats all anchored at the deep hole at the end of the North wall. And an other 15 anchored all over the place. Didn't see any fish caught tho while i waited to log onto the VMR Seaway Tower.
Headed thru the Seaway, and at 2.5km out, the water is boiling - about 5-6 different areas at around 2 acre lots.
Well we threw everthing i had at them but couldn't temp them at all. Must say tho not expereinced in this department at all.
Headed to the 18 fathoms and to a good little spot to get a feed of squire. Must have got 20 or so undersize squire but only one keeper, then a nice little Cod and the deckie gets a Bream around the 1kg mark. Feed starting to look good. But then apart from the little travellys and scads for the bait tank and bait freezer, the whole place shuts down. The winds where all over the place and gusting to aorund 15 nw, but around 12.30 wind drops right out so i decide to head wider to start to look from some new ground. (Yes Tony "SKIPPA" this was all for you ;D ;D) ;).
I head to the 36's to a spot there and first drop, a nice pair of matching parrot. The winds here are about 10-15 out of the N/W and the drift is (GPS) nearly 4km/h. Not another thing hits. Deckie is looking a little green so decide that we have a feed and will start to look for some new ground.
All in all, we went North along the 36's/ Cottons and found a few new marks then moved in to the 24's. Looked around here not to much showing but found a couple i'd like to try eariler in the morning or even a night fish. Had a mate out there Spanner crabbing so off over to him and a few crabs are trown over the gunwales of the MISTRESS :o ::).
Back into the shallow reefs of the 16's/20's fathoms and find some new spots and some old faithfulls give us a couple more, Tailor. Back to where we start to get some more flesh baits. Deckie wants some for Bream fishing at a later date. The drift here is next to nil winds have died right off.
We were going to fish into the night but the kids decide for me to come home early and have feed of fresh fish and spanners. What a day out there. I've had me feed, sat here done my ramble, watched the QUEENSLANDER'S do 'em. What a day!!!
Did aprox 110 km got a feed and left them on the chew at spots. But most of all found some promising (hopefully) new ground, and had a ball. Only got a couple of pics as the deckie had already left the ramp when i thought about the pics of the fish.
