Well, decided to have a little bit of a different day out. Plan was to first put boat in and do little maintaince on the rollers on the trailer, (Always too lazy/ tired to do this when i come in.). Then a day on the water looking for some new ground and to try and get a feed.
Anyway leave the ramp at the Grand hotel at 8.30 and am told by a couple of blokes that the Mac Tuna are as thick as thieves just thru the seaway entrance.

Round the corner into the seaway and bugger me must have been 15 boats all anchored at the deep hole at the end of the North wall. And an other 15 anchored all over the place. Didn't see any fish caught tho while i waited to log onto the VMR Seaway Tower.

Headed thru the Seaway, and at 2.5km out, the water is boiling - about 5-6 different areas at around 2 acre lots.
Well we threw everthing i had at them but couldn't temp them at all. Must say tho not expereinced in this department at all.

Headed to the 18 fathoms and to a good little spot to get a feed of squire. Must have got 20 or so undersize squire but only one keeper, then a nice little Cod and the deckie gets a Bream around the 1kg mark. Feed starting to look good. But then apart from the little travellys and scads for the bait tank and bait freezer, the whole place shuts down. The winds where all over the place and gusting to aorund 15 nw, but around 12.30 wind drops right out so i decide to head wider to start to look from some new ground. (Yes Tony "SKIPPA" this was all for you ;D ;D) ;).

I head to the 36's to a spot there and first drop, a nice pair of matching parrot. The winds here are about 10-15 out of the N/W and the drift is (GPS) nearly 4km/h. Not another thing hits. Deckie is looking a little green so decide that we have a feed and will start to look for some new ground.

All in all, we went North along the 36's/ Cottons and found a few new marks then moved in to the 24's. Looked around here not to much showing but found a couple i'd like to try eariler in the morning or even a night fish. Had a mate out there Spanner crabbing so off over to him and a few crabs are trown over the gunwales of the MISTRESS :o ::).

Back into the shallow reefs of the 16's/20's fathoms and find some new spots and some old faithfulls give us a couple more, Tailor. Back to where we start to get some more flesh baits. Deckie wants some for Bream fishing at a later date. The drift here is next to nil winds have died right off.

We were going to fish into the night but the kids decide for me to come home early and have feed of fresh fish and spanners. What a day out there. I've had me feed, sat here done my ramble, watched the QUEENSLANDER'S do 'em. What a day!!!

Did aprox 110 km got a feed and left them on the chew at spots. But most of all found some promising (hopefully) new ground, and had a ball. Only got a couple of pics as the deckie had already left the ramp when i thought about the pics of the fish.

G'Day Brett,

sounds like a great day out, and a 'gentlemens' hours start eh. (Not to mention a Qld win too ;D)

Good to see you picked up a feed, not a bad day in the office Brett ;)

The wind was all over the place here too, not that there was much of it anyway. Was going to head out today to do a presortie for Saturday, but looks like the wind has come up, not to mention that I've missed the tides by sleeping in and I've still got puter probs, so teckie is coming out to fix today. bugger

Great piccies, I can't wait to get the Southwind outside, but time is running against me now before we head up north.

So much to do, so little time, its hard being on holidays you know ;D

Hope the trailer probs where only minor, can't get the Mistress damaged you know. ;)

Cheers,
Tony 8)

Good feed there mate. The maori cod is very good eating.

I have found that if you are going to fish N/E of the seaway then you have to go very north. The better country seems to be north of the pin bar. The cotton reefs are a waste of time. It holds very little structure at all.

Tony only had to do a little bit on the rollers -change split pins, clean roller axials etc, so wasn't to major a job but heaps easier with the girl off it.
See you may be getting the 107cdf if so will be interested in the difference of the two on these reefs. When do you go away?

blue_rogue, mate the Maori cod and parrot, after fighting with the kids for a bit, was beautiful. Sidcromes weren't to bad either. As you said isn't much on the Cottons area but found a few nice little showing of fish holding on nothing at all - couldn't temp them for a feed tho- usually run over this but will be stopping for a peep next time. Next good day have about a dozen or so marks for the Pin bar system and am planning to do another run for some more recon work. Thanks for the tip..

Dazza awesome day out got the feed and the weather. Haines day looking good. Covered around 110km but not very often you can run out to the 36's at 65km/h and also run back in at the same speed, not to good on the fuel but hey it was great to be out there.

Maztez,

don't worry, it's a father and son thing, I do the same to my dad.......he falls for it too ;D ;D ;D

Brett,

Ahh good to hear no major trailer probs, need to reset my rollers too before we go away, when you get it right it makes a huge difference. We leave next weekend, so just enough time for a couple of midweek quickies and get the car and Yammie serviced.

Just finished putting in the new sounder, always takes longer than you think eh. Going for a quick fish with a mate Saturday so I hope I've go the setup right. Sure as hell looks impressive, a lot better than my money tree now, that's for sure..... I think I need some overtime now.

Cheers,
Tony 8)
PS what sounder do you have in yours?

Dad,
really, you'll never be that quick again ;D ;D ::) :-*. But seriously the best way to save on the fuel bill is to get you come along and just pay for it... ::) ::) . What are you doing next week? ;D ;D . And see i'm not the only one that has these great ideas on saving money, thanks Tony.

Tony not wrong about the roller setup but these just needed the old clean as they were starting to get a little sticky. But crikeys when i was done she flew off the trailer when i tested it out upon our return...
Mate currently have the X85 in the boat with two different transducers setup. tried the larger one the other day for the first time and wasn't real impressed so went back to what i knew best. Great sounder and holds it's own even on the 50's. But figure if i keep saving money on the mobile bill will be able to get the x107cdf soon, ;D ;D (hope the old man don't read that bit ::) ::) ). Thats why i am so interested in having a look at yours and mine on the same patch of dirt.
And mate you said:

We leave next weekend, so just enough time for a couple of midweek quickies and get the car and Yammie serviced.

Hope you'll try and get a fish in midweek too ;D ;D ::)
