Just a quick report on yesterday mornings session of wellington point. After receiving heaps of advice from fellow ausfishes headed out to the right of the leads around 5.30 am. First time fishing a 'work day' for some time and there was only 2 other boats out there although they were towards Huybers. We had the whole area to ourselves. We fished through to 10.30 catching stacks of fish including many squire around the 33cm to 34cm mark. Although we still haven't caught a legal squire I feel we are not to far of.
Note I was using the finesse heads and my mate was using nitros in vary weights from 1/4 to 1/6. the lighter heads definitely improved the catch rate as we probably ended up with over 50 fish. I also did not have a problem with hooks straightening so thanks for the advice! Mainly used 3" berkley pumpkinseed and watermelon as well as 3" pearl Blue.
At one occassion after hooking a pike my mobile phone rang so i couldn't unhook it and left it in the water. Suddenly mr pike was joined by quite a few of his mates as well as some monster bream just below them. For the next 10 minutes we were throwing plastics at them hoping the bream would eventually take it, although Mr Pike insured that was not to be. I think the pike would have hung around if it wasn't for a lone dolphin who came to our rescue and hung around the boat.
The wind was a lot lighter than last weekend and kept us in the strike zone for a lot longer. I am back to the tackle shop today to replenish my soft plastics and jighead supply. I know the first legal squire on SP is just around the corner.
