Bouncing Bonito

Had fun over the long weekend around the Rous, hooking up on screaming bonito! Using soft plastics with a slow and erratic retrieve, getting heaps of hits & takes! These fish are great sport on light line - using 4lb. braid. Also, now have some good bait supplies, and believe it or not, fillets are great to eat smoked!!

I've been told since that I should have filletted and salted the ones kept for bait, as they can get quite soft when thawed - anyway, will find out soon I guess!

yep you are right about the soft flesh - I froze a few bonito and used them a couple of months later - the fish loved them, but the flesh is very soft and perfect for the pickers (however the skin stays on the hook forever!)
