Hi All,

Headed out off straddie on sunday in a mates boat with high expectations as it was my first trip out that way. With the forecast being a bit off we headed across a lumpy bay and out through southpassage bar which after fishing off southport is a hell of a long trip. First stop WRB and some pillies were chucked over the side to see if any dolphin fish where about but there didn't seem to be any action so we headed to some reef not far away to bottom bash. Things started pretty slow but after a bit of moving around we found a nice rise that appeared to be holding fish. First drift over and bang everyone hooks up and the pearlies start hitting the deck. We repeated the drift a few times for more pearlies a couple of squire and a tuskie, made for a good feed of reefies and time to head home. The bar crossing on the way back was a bit rough with the big runout tide a the nor easter that had sprung up, but once in the bay it was plane sailing back to Manly.

Well done Matty. Top catch mate.... Heading to the 36's North on Wed. Will let know what the outcome is......

P.s mate noticed in the pic that they are all gutted and gilled. I usually don't bother, just rip the fillets off and don't have to worry about the gutting. Keeping the frames for burley. Unless keeping a couple whole for the BBQ. Just a little curious is all ;)

Cheers guys, had one for dinner last night goota love fresh pearlies doesn't get much better than that!

Brett, yeah gilled and gutted them as I like to cook pearlies whole, the flesh is to good to miss any and the best bit is the cheeks which you miss if filleting. The squire were just along for the ride ;D

Cool mate will have to have a go at those cheeks then. Learn something new everyday. Hopefully get into a couple myself tomorrow.

Nice haul of pearlieis matt, it sure is a long way across the bay before you even get offshore, i guess thats why it fishes pretty well out there.

Dom, thanks mate, out of interest what are you looking at replacing the rouge with?

JB, is a bloody long way mate going to have a quick look at some charts cause it would be nearly the same distance to go through the pin and run up I'm thinkin, with a lot of options on the wayas well.
