Headed out Saturday morning in our new boat that was delivered on Friday. We bit the bullet and purchased a 6.5 Sailfish with twin honda 90s. Boat performed brilliantly, as all boats should when the weather is that good. Will post some pics of it in the boat section latter. Had Stuie on board for the maiden voyage. Headed to the top of the banks. Stopped at a big pod of dolphins and loaded up on slimies and pillies, so off to a good start. Went out to the 80 meter line and got a few pearlies. A bit slow so we headed into the 50 meter area and anchored on a good show. Fish were on in no time and got our bag of good snapper from 3-5.5 kgs. Lost a heap of big fish on livies, mostly aj's I think. Forgot the leader material and were severly under gunned. Planned on staying out until dusk but with the fish box full we headed in around 5pm. Top day was had by all. Tony.

Yeh that was us chemmy. We ended up with about 25 good fish and released quiet a few snapper. Got most of our fish where you seen us. What is the secret you have in avoiding those pesky knobbies. We couldn't take a trick, just kept hooking snapper.

Stuie,
liking the haircut!
Perko,
when are you crossig over to the dark side? I wanna see a number one comb all over before the meeting Wednesday night!
Have to give Tib and Johnny a few tips about talking on VHF. Can pick people that haven't done a VHF course by the trucky talk.

did you use floaters or did you use a bottom basher rig?
And if it's not a secret what bait did you use?

Smithy,
Don't see the point in having to comb the bit that is there, so low maintenance is the way to go. Although nightshifts in winter can be a bit cool up top.
Perko,
Thanks for the trip. Happy to have blooded the new Thunnus. The boat is awesome. Can't wait to get out in some rougher stuff. The ocean was not very testing for it.

Perko - Great rig and top catch. Out of interest how much fuel did you use for the round trip ?
Cheers

Perko if you work out how to avoid the snapper let us know they are a real problem at the moment ;)
Couldn't have got a better trip to christen the new rig.

Greg,
Twin Honda 90s, 90litres combined for 70miles at 5000rpm he said. He might correct me.

Chemy Bait we used were slimies live and dead and fresh caught pillies, and a few frozen wa pillies. Caught them on both floaters and on the bottom.
Greg, Smithy was nearly spot on with the fuel usage only I sat on 4500rpm for a fair bit of the trip. Very happy with the result, especially with no 2 stroke oil!

Steve/Perko - The answer to this is simple... Take me along for a trip, and I'll keep them busy while you chase the other fish!!! ;D ;D ;D he he he
P.S - Great fish there Perko. Perfect way to start a new boat!!!
