Saturday 3rd of sept 7.00am put the kids in the car give the wife a hurry up and give the car and boat a last once over before the 3hour trip to rainbow beach ,boats fine the rear passenger side trye is flat as a tac (s@#$) pop the bonnet attach the air compressor go back to the tyre and start having a look there right on top was the end of a screw rip it out with plyers and push in a safty seal plug, tyre fixed. :D I've used my safty seal repair kit before but never has it been so handy as then. That was about the only trouble for the trip up , the beach is in the best condition i have seen it in 25 years and all the tracks are very manageable even towing a boat. My only tip is prebook all camping and vehicle permits and if you can pick them up in the city, the wait and line up at the rainbow NP office is LOOOOONG!! :(

Sunday was blowing alot from the north so it was a day with the family and an early start was planed monday getting boats in and out was easy as a large hole had formed down towards the sand dunes near waddy lodge and was accessable at all times bar bottom of the tide. After launching ,GBC's boat had a few problems which i'll let him describe but we ended up fishing alone that day . After trying to get some livies in close the weed defeated us and we headed wide trolling Mac baits and hex heads to try and get some fresh bait also trolling speed was about right as the seas were still very sloppy. Not long after deploying the lures they both went off and about 2 seconds after that my rod with the hex head on really went ooooFFF! The drag on the brand new AVET was set at 8kg and i lost 450meters of braid in about 2minutes Time to chase and regain line i had already called the fish a shark and it was big anyway after many more powerful long runs over 40 minutes the reel failed in a big way ( FIRST and LAST fish) i had to cut the braid ,at one stage during the fight it was about 40m away and it silhouette was HUGE :o :o :o I just wish i could have got a decent look to gauge approx length +species .

Buy this time it was getting towards miday so time to bottom bash, our target area due to the weather was the gravel patches inside the gardeners these are dotted with little lumps and bumps all appeared to hold alot of bait and fish. The first problem was the 4km current running south this made for quick drifts but fish were comming onboard ( red throat , cod, fingermark, and just under sized reds :'( :'( :'()

The rest of the week the wind blew hard 15-20 knots from the southeast and with a strong current running into it, fishing while possible was very very uncomfortable. We caught fish but nothing huge and no great numbers still a great week and will go again ASAP ;)

Ian

Ps. hopefully GBC will post a report about the monday, they borrowed my boat and went out in 25+ knots and with that southerly current running . It was rough!!! ;D ;D ;D

PPS. sorry no fish photo's none were real worthy or worth getting into strife over as the wife had filled up the cards with kids photo's and i have to be brave to delete any of them( Must get bigger MB cards)

Sounds not tooo bad... big fish sounds exciting, pity you didnt get a look. The weed was close in you say. But was it actually on the shore line? How were beach fishing conditions? Cheers

Yep that was me we'll catch up sometime

Trevor

Now that you mention it it probably was a barra i'm thinkin about packing the jig stick next time i come up a 30kg rod with an Accurate reel capable of an 18kg drag setting 80lb braid and 300lb leader should just about stop afew of those big girls if they keep growing the way they are!!!!!!

Ya reckon a 44 foot Riveria is going to look out of place on the dam. ;)i wonder what sort of teaser would bring them out of the sticks???????? :-?

Shame about the big one that got away :'(. Sounds like you had fun though I am curious about how long it took to get to waddy point from the barge towing a boat and also what size boat and car you have. Plus any other pointers as I am heading up in november ;D.

Thanks.

4.2l turbo patrol towing a 5.2 meter southwind longboat nothing done to trailer though .

trip was about 2.5 hours allowing for a bit of fun and games at indian and waddy

Major tip - don't muck around when letting tyres down 15psi on car and trailer and you will have no problems. The higher the pressure in you tyres the more problems you have. Simple stuff i know but you would be amazed the poeple that only let them down to 20 -25 psi and block tracks everywhere.

Trevor. yep the old FIZZIE TAILED PRAWN works on all fish species colour doesn't mater nether does type of hooks ;)
