Launched the boat in the inlet today to have a try for some jacks. It was a really nice sunny day, but I was thankful for the canopy. The fishing was fairly steady, with a nice wolf herring and a few big pike coming aboard. Should make useful reef bait at least.....

then BANG, and after a rough tussle, a big dog bream was swung over the side...

We couldn't believe our luck. But it wasn't to end there. Another huge strike had the penn down to the spool knot in no time. A mammoth battle ensued, though there could be only one winner....

OK, just noticed these fish look a lot smaller in the photos.... honest!
Oh well, they're a pretty fish at any size. Going to head out to the reef tomorrow to try and upsize them.
cheers,

Good to see that people are still releasing fingerlings into the Cairns inlet.

Carl, the wolfies were caught on live herring. And that one did make good spaniard bait!
cheers,
steve
