Headed out from Wello early this morning to a glassy bay. Straight to the four beacons with no sign of birds in the paddock. Few birds and bit of bait working but not much. Picked up a small schoolie working slugs on one of the beacons after many casts. Worked birds and beacons all the way up to between M2 and NE8. Only under one lot of birds was there bait with what I am pretty sure were spotties slicing the surface on only a few occasions. That was soon brought to a stop with a boat and POB yelling out FISH FISH!! and driving straight into the middle of them. The thickest of bait schools was east of M2 and not a single fish in amongst it.

SCGFC, your FAD drifted right past NE8 at about 10:30am this morning.

Back to the four beacons and worked slugs hard for 2 undersize schoolies and another keeper. Dolphins were thick as thieves.

Merry Christmas to everyone.
Hopefully, a Christmas day report from CQ.

Clayton, you weren't the only one mate. I headed out from Shorncliffe across a glassed out bay for Hutchies/Flinders but turned back at the cape. Big rolling swell that wasn't a danger but just wouldn't allow me to run fast enough.

Drifted past Combie for an hour with not a touch then headed for the Beacons. Jigged a few before anchoring up at E3 for 2 hours..........not a touch :'(

Saw plenty of bait but nothing working them. Couldn't go home fishless so headed for the beacons at the mouth of the river in the hope of a whaler or big catty........an hour there and nothing. I've never been there before without scoring at least half a dozen catties and a couple of shark. :o So off to Mud.....again, nothing :'( Just don't know what was happening yesterday but I've never blanked before. Those I talked to out there seemed to be having the same result. :o

Meant to add that we counted at least 16 trawlers.

Kev, if you can't score vermin then there must be something strange going on. The trawlers were thick but they seemed to be working within the shipping channels and not where the bait was. That northerly blew fairly late into Tuesday night..I really didn't think I would be going when I got to sleep.

I talked to a bloke who was camping on Moreton and fishing the beacons and he said the mackeral were thick on Monday south of four beacons...couldn't miss stuff. So still a bit hit and miss at the moment. Get out there lukesnapper, you might strike it on a good day.

I picked up a book the other day called the Solar lunar best times for fishing.
I've never thought that this stuff was measurable but there may be something in it. Obviously the best phases are New and Full moon at top and bottom of the tide depending on the species targeted.
They rate each day and give a hot times of the day to fish. Of course wind is a factor as most bay fish seem to get lock jaw in any sort of Northerly!
Whats interesting in this case is that Sunday 18/12/05 was rated 7/10, Monday was 6/10 and believe it Wed 21/12/05 was only 3/10.
Could be something in it after all.
Cheers,
Scott

SGBFISH - what was the score for today if you dont mind (out of 10) on the tables.

We fished Tuesday afternoon for nil result - went to Currimundi this morning for nil fish (Sunshine Coast Daily said plenty of good spotties at Currimundi). Blowing Northerly as well........

Came back to Headland and found fish , bait, birds and some boats working - we caught 2 nice spotties missed 3, but they were not biting their heads off. Plenty of fish holding at 15- 20ft and bait everywhere.

Fish are really on the move I think and not holding generally to one area.

4/10 for today.
Based on this the next booming days 7/10 are Monday and Tuesday straight after XMAS day. Will need to get out by then!
