Hit spot x about 4am this morning.Had a few hits early but only pickers. Then fished the edge of a reef in about 4 m of water and got smashed.Good screaming run on 4lb gear.Couple of minutes later boated my pb squire on softies(not counting out wide)of 56cm 1.7kg.

Feeling pretty happy about that one we motored up for another drift and nearly at the same spot bang.Dam i said to my mate missed a good hit.Another twich on the bottom bang again im on big time.
The braid was peeling off at a great rate.Better start the motor. So we chased it for about 100m 5min later im bettering my pb with a 69 cm 3.8 kg snapper(some of you will say squire but im saying snapper).

Man what an awsome feeling seeing the big pink flash under the surface of the water.

We fished another hour for a couple of grassies and some bream and undersized cod.

Plastics used where 3in bass minnows in pearl watermellon and smelt on 4lb fireline and 14 lb vanish leader.

Dam i love plastics

Cheers leigh

100% Snapper I count them as a snapper if they have the bump on there head.
Wish I had the patance to fish with softies.

nice squire\snapper there. Realistically it is a snapper as squire is the laymans term for a juvy snap. Who dictates when a squire becomes a snapper anyway. Some SA fishos would scoff at the idea of a 5 -6kg snapper being a snapper as some of their fish get to 35 pounds. But good fight on 4lb gear anyway.

Here we go again...Squire vs Snapper.....BUT
I believe in Victoria a Squire is female and Snapper a male....the difference being the male has the bump on the head.

However, Im a Queenslander so to me a Squire is a baby Snapper.

In any case awesome fish mate. I fish there regularly but pb is only 52cm. Good stuff.

A couple of great captures. Getting your PB is awesome but breaking it twice in one day is definately a day to remember. Congratulations

Hi Tangles, Very nice snapper you got there mate....persistance pays off and you put in the hours so well deserved.

The old market (Queensland Fish Board) grading for snapper/squire demarkation was 5lb and over went into snapper bin and 5lb and under into the squire bin. 5lb near enough to 2.3 kg. Squire could then be sorted again with Plate Size fish being the next grading. Shows how old I am doesnt it.

Yes , he is obviously way further south than he says. A little pulling our leg there I think.
Even took his jumper off to try & fool us, but it didn't work.
