Early morning fish around Peel Island (27/01) - using soft plastics. Produced: one legal squire, a few undersize squire, a cod and a few that got away.

The big surprise was a 47cm (1.5kg) Coral Trout that was caught on a soft plastic.

Had heard that Coral Trout can be caught in the Bay - but until you get one yourself ?? :) ; :)

Has anyone else caught trout in the Bay??

Well done Shane..

No Trout here but a couple of undersized red emporer. One at Harries the other at Peel. Argle hit the nail on the head, you never know what the bay can produce.

nice fish, I think more would be landed on heavier gear they go straight for the reef.

Sorry a bit slow on the replies.

Argle - No it wasnt at the houseboat, fished shallow reefs, caught in about 4 metres of water.

Aquarius - the SP's are a lot of fun, Duncan at Fishhead (Redland Bay) is the man to see for the right gear (Zoom SP's) and tips.

I wonder if the trout in the bay has anything to do with the reefs recovering after mining stopped?
Any Thoughts

Yeah I pulled a few up on the 27th as well, not real big though, so back in the drink to pull out next year, hooked a monster turtle though, line wrapped around his flipper, he was as wide as the boat, thank @&^% the line came off by itself, or he would've towed us all over the bloody bay.

Then I got my line tangled around the prop >:(, so there's me with one leg underwater on the rear step, leaning out the back, complete right arm under water, trying to untangle it, when a professional crabber starts pulling up pots next to us, it was only then that I noticed the six foot shark ten yards form the boat start thrashing around towards the pots. Needless to say I cut the line and pulled both halves back in from inside the boat. ;)

Hey Hurlz

I have seen those sharks around Peel chasing the crabbers. They drop their old bait over the side, scream off to the next pot and the sharks are already there waiting for a feed. Bad luck if your boat sounds like theirs.
