Had a great week fishing the southern end of the beach from about first cutting to the start of the Teewah sand mass. The surf was almost totally weed free, probably due to the 15-20 knot south east winds that blew most of the week. This created a fairly big swell which made the fishing a bit more difficult, but the increased water movement in the gutters brings the fish on. I made one run up to Double Island Point and there was a bit of weed right at the top of the beach, but elsewhere was pretty good. There were plenty of worms available and I was always able to get enough each afternoon for the next days fishing.
The dart were very cooperative each afternoon with quality fish coming from the gutters north of third cutting. In the mornings I fished the hole in front of the campground for good catches of tarwhine. There were a few good whiting at times mixed in with the dart and the odd trevally in the mornings. Other noteworthy catches I saw included a small whaler shark (about 15kg) taken from the beach just north of the camp, a nice diamond trevally (about 3kg) from in front of the camp and a large shovelnose shark (about 25kg) taken up near the shire boundary

Heya Freeeedom

Some nice quality dart there, looks like the tricky little suckers were picking up the bait and running in with it by the number of broken knecks. I've never caught a diamond trevally, how are they fight wise?

It put up a great fight. As you can see its a very flat fish and can put up a lot of resistance when you're trying to pull it side-on through the water. I think it was probably the biggest fish the old guy had ever caught. It really made his day. He even asked me to help him cook it on the barbecue and to taste it once it was done. It was quite good, although a little bit dry, like most of the trevallies.

Hi Freeeedom

great to hear the weed is clearing, I'm off to Noosa next month

Were the dart caught on pippis , worms or something else?????

All were caught on worms. The better quality dart were well out in the gutters and it needed a good cast to reach them. Worms are ideal for this as they don't fly off the hook like softer baits.
