The fishing trip did not start well. Before we left, Chris aka GWH decided to net some live bait in his favourite creek before heading out. Throwing into an area where he knew there was no snags from previous investigation with his sounder, he managed to terminally snag his cast net into a tree that must have come down in the last big wet. End result was one cast net written off and no live bait. Skipper was not happy :'(

Fished the bottom of the tide in one of his favourite holes, it showed good fish and first cast landed a nice little barra on a seaworm. Yes guys, a sea worm in the muddy old river.

Saw a bloke in a boat with earshot land half a dozen good muddies on his fishing rod in a matter of an hour but did not have much else to report. Next time we take the crab pots!

Sun went down and the mosquitos nearly carried us away. I can never remember them being so bad, maybe it's because of recent rain. I think Chris will be lodging a claim with the Guiness Book of Records for the most number of mosquito bites on a square cm of anklebone. Yes he forgot his socks!! Ouch ;D

All in all, not much action but it's always relaxing and good for a laugh.

Muddies on a rod? They must be hungry buggers to hang on like that.

to all concerned, skip AKA GWH swore me to secrecy on the location after giving away too much garb on a recent fishing trip. In fact I was grounded for two trips as punishment.

So if I can't tell you the location then I may as well mix up the fish as well. Until I own a boat, I guess my hands are tied! Lesson learnt.

Howsya ankles today Chris?? ;D ;D ;D

Apparantly many years ago there used to be a strand of Barra that did live in the Brisbane River. It was known as the "Brisbane Cod" or a similar name I believe.

Then they built a weir at Mount Crosby, (not sure if it was the one currently in use today or the old weir downstream of it) but either way one of these weirs was responsible for stopping their breeding pattern and subsequently that was it. All the Barra's died off.

I believe the Logan River system also had a population of these southern strand Barra's untill they too eventually all died off.

Perhaps another Ausfisher can elaborate on this.

Anyway Nice Jew Fish

Well done
