Ok sorry this is so late, jsut since we've got back theres been stuff to do and i think sheer laziness has also kicked in, but i guess late is better than never.
Started off on the 17th (i think) of December. Myself, Fincho and Dropshot headed up to Noosa for a week. Now after having alot of success the previous year on the trevs, tailor and queenies we were bloody excited about having another crack.
First arvo we headed out and things were a bit slow, when all of a sudden jsut on dark the water was boiling and there was a mad rush to fire out casts, Fincho hooked up first but dropped it, then i hooked up and soon had my first and 2nd best fish of the trip in the boat, a nice GT. As it got dark, our retrieve became less effective on the trevs as we were jsut cranking 3" bass minnows across the surface. But seeing there was still some surface action in near the bank, we whipped out the poppers. First cast my lure got tangled so it was more of a shallow diving popper, and then all of a sudden it got slammed, the fish took off but unfortunately the hooks pulled. After alot of big strikes but no hook ups fincho soon hooked up and landed a nice little trev and i hooked up a cast later to one of the smallest trevs ever, literally only a bit bigger than the popper, but hey it was my first so i was bloody excited.
Anyway as i can't remember the exact days we caught the fish itll all get a bit blury from here on. The second morning we again managed a feww trevs... well fincho and I did anyway, the now famous curse had struck Kev (dropshot, with dropped hooks, randomly snapped leaders and bite offs, and all he had managed was a solid little bream). Anyway the week progressed with some solid trevs coming to the boat and fincho became a bit of a flatty god nailing a couple of nice ones a breaking his pb a few times. I too managed to break my pb with a nice 58cm flatty. Some of the highlights of this middle period of the week were a solid 3lb queenie for fincho, a small barracuda for myself (sorry no pic and definitely not a pike). Fincho's dad then managed a barracuda and fincho too nailed one. There were a heap of big bustoffs with bent, straightened and mangled jigheads not being uncommon. The 3rd alst day after seeing a random splash we stopped and had a flick i i nailed the best trev for the trip coming in at 49 cm to the fork. Then on the 3rd last night, as i was having a good week the fishing gods again smiled on me. WE had been fishing for a while with not much happeneing and the call last cast went out... well i thought to myself alst 2, and of course as the others were starting the boat up my last ast got nailed, after about 2 secs it launched itself and after 2 more huge jumps a nice 3lb queenie came to the boat. The alst cast call was cancelled and everyone was firing out casts again. After a while and no more hits again the call alst cast went out and of course i thought well i can get in 2 more, and of course as the others were getting the boat started i fired out my 2nd cast only to get slammed again and a nice lowly trev came to the boat (looked it up in grants guide- sort of a Gt/golden cross it looks like). Dropshot and Fincho were spewing so as they fired casts out i released my trev and fired out another cast only to hook up again... i swear i was nearly thrown out of the boat. fincho was to p*issed at me to take a photo and releuctantly dropshot did. Dropshot still hadnt managed his first Trev as the curse ahd stayed with him all week. So on the 2nd last day we headed out again and Kev yet again had his few missed fish so i said i would tie his the knot to connect his leader and mainline... aand what do you know his first trev comes to the boat. haha and the call went out he had apssed the curse on to me. We moved around a bit and I had no luck while everyone else seemed to being doing ok. After seeing a bit of surface action I fired out and was promptly bitten off while fincho flicked around a popper and managed a nice sized tailor. Bloody good fish on the ppoper. Another tailor then came to the boat and then everything slowed down and we headed home. We came out again that arvo and firwst cast what do you know, i get bitten off (my first donut day). Damn this bloody curse i was thinking. Well after hearing reports of a cobia in Woods bay we ahd joked about catch one all week. Anyhow Fincho and Dropshots Dad was jigging his Smelt dropshot along the bottom when all of a sudden WHAMMO, he cranked it up to the surface and the call flatty went out when all of a Sudden i jsut went COBIAAAA, the thing then screamed back down to the bottoma nd put up one hell of an account before finally it came aboard. It was only tiny but stilll blooodyyy exciting. Then the last morning we headed out and with some huge fish breaking the surface aaround us we wera gain all firing out casts but they seemed releuctant to hit the lure after numerous follows and hits fincho finally hooked up and landed a really nice lowly trev. I too fianlly hooked up only to get bitten off again. I swear i nearly quit fishing right then and there. So that was the week. ficnho or dropshot migh want to go into more detail. Sorry about the long and late report. It ws an exciting week though. We ended up with about 50 trevs for the trip with queenies bream tailor and flatties... and cobia and barracuda all coming aboard. A few pics to follow.
Cheers
