Early morning solo trip out to Green Island this morning. Left a about 3am from Manly. Dropped 4 pots on the way out. Started off bait fishing first and got a good mixed bag of a nice grassie and cod, 2 moses perch, a bream and a reasonable slatey as well as heaps of throwbacks and a bit of vermin. Didn't see any squire at all surprisingly.

As sun came up decided I had enough fish for a few feeds so I thought I'd try out the SP's I'd been collecting in my tacklebox without having enough confidence in them to actually use them much. Getting hits from the first cast and first fish was a just undersize squire, my first on a SP. This was followed by a procession of undersized squire, grassies and moses perch as well as donating lots of tackle to the reef. Was running short of jig heads with heavy gauge hooks so put on one that was fairly light gauge.

Chucked it out with a pumpkinseed gulp on, it hits the bottom, couple of jerks then bang, hit by a freight train. Big run and then turn it, runs again turn it again, runs again and feel head shaking then nothing. WInd in one very straightened hook. Only fishing 4kg so must have done it with it jaws. Few choice words then back into it but the big boys didn't want to play so went and pcked up the pots (only 2 sandies). and back to ramp very contented after an enjoyable morning. Go up to get the car and look at it trying to work out what is wrong, some mongrel had pinched the torneau cover! Really bizarre as it was full of holes and a bit rotten. You would think if you were going to steal something you'd at least find a decent one to steal. Anyway, made the decision to not be sh*tted off with them and ruin my day off. Will be back again to try the SP'd again soon (after I restock my tackle box)

Mate sounds like a good session to me............next time try using a strong single hook instead of a jighead............In the shallow water you need very little weight to get down in the structure.
I'm guessing it was a 50cm + squire or a decent size grassie that straightened that hook.
Hope next time you nail that monster.
Cheers Brent :)
