As ive commented to a few of you members out there that you have inspired me to keep throwing these plastics and give them a decent go.Towed the boat up to the maroochy river yesterday and fished around the top of tide and first of runout. fished right up in the shallows around chambers where we were sight casting to flathead that were positioning themselves under baitfish around run off drains and the edges of banks.Lost 1 good fish early ,ran extremmely hard with first run but for no reason dropped the fish. now this got the blood pumping, so i kept working along these areas to land 3 lizards all returned to the water. I know it was only 3 fish which may have been due to the visability of the water but when your twiching that plastic past a fish you can see and just trying to entice a strike, well that blew me away.Had a bloody ball and still smiling.Must admit this will have to happen to me a few more times but wow its a good start. Hope you all got the same kick , i got this weekend. cheers

well done chief, i have had the same experience sight fishing for flathead with plastics at the Urangan Pier at Hervey Bay. its sounds more fun from a boat because you can net them and release them unharmed. the only way to get them up onto the pier is with a gaff and being a catch and release fisherman i had to resort to walking them several hundred meters down the peir to a sand bank, get my wife to hold the fishing rod while i climbed down the ladder and released the fish . needless to say most the big ones got away long before we got them back to the ladder. my best one to date is only 76cm but lost a couple of larger ones. my best plastic for flathead has been the juro fire baits in the green minnow about 3 inches on a 1/8 tt jighead. they cant resist them.

Good stuff. I have been a convert for close on two years now and I get a thrill every time I get something even nibbling on a plastic. Welcome to the soft plastics brigade Chief. [smiley=laola.gif]

lanks,i was using 1/8 tt jigheads with 3 inch minnows in pearl/watermellon and smelt scales powerbaits. I've got a lot to learn and a lot of trial and error to go through but gee I've read some great stuff from other members.thanks for your tips mate.

Sounds like a bloody awesome session. Three decent flatties... I'd never complain about that. How much do the big runs get your heart pumping with the drag screaming. Well done mate.
Cheers
