I accepted the opportunity to fish with a friend of mine on the Nerang on Sunday morning on his new boat "Steve's boat". It was a great morning light wind and few fishers. I was keen to trial my new Luvias 1500 and 2500 spinning reels on their matching Angler stealth DCX 840 and 841 rods.

Well they were great, perfect combos, but it was the 3lb flourocarbon main line right to the lures that did the trick on the gun shy bream. Once I removed my 6lb flourcarbon leader I was instantly converting nibbles into landed fish, although I was a bit nervous with my ecogear sx40 lure on the end at $20 a pop 3lb line doesn't give you much leeway when getting slammed by flathead and cod as they have real teeth.

Anyhow we had a great couple of hours with a good mate, over 30 bream a few flathead, two small jacks, two small cod and a moses perch. My mate caught most of this but I would have had a respectable bag for the morning albeit without the jacks. All released in excellent nic.
No pictures - sorry.

Sounds like an awesome sesh mate. The light gear really does make a difference aye.... and sure makes a decent fish fight a hell of alot better. Good on ya

The Jacks were only tiny, definitely sub legal, but it's great to see them coming aboard, very colorful. I'm not sure if there are more jacks getting caught then in the recent past or if the internet has increased the reported catch rate compared with what we were used too. I suppose there has been an increase in the number of anglers throwing small lures both hard and soft as well, which are probably more likely to catch small jacks than soaking huge baits.

Deelight,

Where did you get your Angler Stealth rods from? I am interested in looking at some, but it appears that no-one in Brisbane stocks them. The guys at Mossops even tried to see if the rep would leave one there for me to look at, but to no avail (thanks for trying though guys). I have played with an 841 before and thought it was pretty good.

Thanks,
Simon

Simon,

Charlton's Tackle 'N' Bait 18 Kerwick St Redbank (07) 3818 1677

Should have a full range in stock for you to look at and if not should have no trouble getting them in at very short notice. If you wanted to look at a specific blank then you cold ring ahead just to make sure they have one in stock.

I couldn't rave about the above outfits enough, especially when it comes to fishing small line classes right to the limit.

Good luck and pm me if you have any more trouble.
