I was wondering if anyone has ever targeted Diamond scale mullet, if so what bait and rig would you use. In the cooler months there are quite a number of them along south white cliffs and figtree on Fraser island, we have seen them at night time with the spot light and have even had a few jump into the tinny, some of the bigger ones are up to 4 kg and had them jump right over my tinny which has a 2 mt beam . One night a 2 kg fish hit the son-inlaw in the chest almost knoking him out of the boat, so I thought if they can jump that high they might be good fun on light gear if i can find the right technique. I think you could try a tiny hook with a bread dough ball moulded over the hook. Hide the hook, and probably no weight.
Good luck

Id probably try and target them with very fine line, small hook and no weight. Probably berly up with some bread, or even some green weed mixed with sand. Then using dough for bait, suspend it under a small float. Berlying up is the key to concentrate the fish in your area. Have only caught one on a line and that was when i was targeting whiting in the gulf of carpentaria.
Hope this helps

I use a light rod with old closed overhead shimano reel with 4lb line with small float attached just above a swivel with about 5-7cm of line to tiny hook. You can go longer with the line if you want to use pencil float..
I bait up with fresh white bread.. It's that simple! It's techinque i've been using since i was 12 & has been highly successful for me..

i caught one by mistake fishing for whiting on day in the surf when the mullet were running, it went like a freight train and i thought it was a monster whiting only to discover it was a 40cm diamond scale mullet, cuaght him on beach worms and size 2 long shank ;D
