The decision to take a trip out in the bay was made late fri avo. We rushed to pack the boat to try to get to Redcliffe in time to cross the bay in a little light as the winds that were picking up and in the dark it would be a very slow or wet ride across in the center console, which is not ideal of an overnighter. Saw a couple white caps once on the water so we fished in close for a few bream and headed in for a sleep tied up in the marina. At 3:30 the conditions looked better so we headed across to some nice broken grounds I sounded a previous trip. 1st plastic dropped and James boated a nice bay squire. A few smaller models brought onboard before light-up when a boat spotted us.....sounded around and around us not 20mt from the boat and dropped anchor to sit seriously 5mt from our boat. I commented to them 'It would be easier just to come fish in my boat' which was taken as a joke even though it was not funny.
Pulled the pick and went to attempt my 1st longtail on a stickbait. Getting close enough with my 2 stroke was the real problem so I cheated and drove off 100mt of line and worked it back to the boat with a result....my 1st LT on plastic. Decided to go check a beacon and after jigging up a livey or two one was returned down with a hook in it's nose which resulted in a mackeral. Once boatside a large silver rocket stole the mac off the hook which left us stunned thinking....'What the....is this a lost hoo?'. So we jigged up a 60cm school mackeral and returned it down with a 2 hook wire rig and a couple minuted later the beast was hooked but it was definately not a hoo on the end of the line. Finally brought up to the boat it was called for a big baracuda. A release involving everything except mouth to mouth was attempted but sadly the big fella already had his last kick.
With the promise of joining my wife at her sister's birthday we called it a day mid morning and headed back to find more and more schools of working LTs which we reluctantly drove past.
Cheers, Jay
PS....sorry Brad ;);D :-X
