Well it works - sought of...........fished double island on sunday for a good feed of dart and some fun for the girls..............running low on worms - i decided to give some sp's the go..........berkley pumpkinseed..........cant remember the rest but they looked like a fat worm.........first cast slow wind when bang - hit by a dart.............got him in only for him to spit it at my feet..........this happened twice so i decided to that they must be only eating the tail piece of the sp and not actually getting hooked - so i halved the size by cutting the sp in two and threading the hook through the tail some more but the dart had packed up and moved to the next gutter...........but still the point was proven that sp's will attract fish in the surf...............apart from 20 odd good dart we nailed two whiting and tarwhine...........got smashed yet again by what i believe a big shovels or sharks down at the mouth - twice done - one on whole live poddy (spat hooks), and other on bream rod (12lb) mullet flesh.........fought it for over 1/2 hour before bust off...........
WARNING - always check cast nets/baitnets after every cast/drag thoroughly.............early sat morning fish almost turned to disaster when i was cast netting live bait down at toorbul - packed up ready to go home - slung cast net over bag and was adjusting its position when i got spiked by something in my finger........turned out to be a juvenile stone fish..........very very very painful...........to make matters worse i could not remember whether to vinegar it or hot water it...........mind going hundred miles an hour..............on going to local shop and asking them - they didnt have a clue either (very ordinary considering location)...........so after a quick phone call it was hot water as hot as you can stand..............and medical assistance asap
